Jazz get TPE for Boozer

There will be teams trying to cut salary, for sure, but just because a team wants to cut salary doesn't mean that they will have something the Jazz would take. If people are signing people to bad contracts now, why on earth do you think we would want them later?

I would love someone like Okafor. But we must ask, if we don't want Boozer for that kind of money why do we want anyone else for that kind of money?

I would really enjoy the Jazz going after a guy like Biedrins. Wonder if that is how they'll go. Beasley would be a good risk/reward option. What about Tyson Chandler? He's an expiring too, so if it worked out, then give him another deal... If not no big deal.

Anyone down for Nenad Krstic or Kevin Martin? Krstic is expring and Martin has 3/36 left. I could see those being realistic deals. Antwawn Jamison has 2 years/29 million left and Cleveland has no reason to keep him now that Lebron is gone. Not sure if he's worth that much.

I don't think the Jazz would have traded a draft pick if they didn't have some intention of using it.

For what it's worth, I think it will come out at some point that the Jazz could have taken James Johnson in the deal. My guess is KOC didn't want Johnson. That doesn't mean he will or won't use the TPE, but it probably means he isn't just waiting for whatever floats to shore to fill needs.

Erick Dampier is expiring this year at exactly 13 million.

He also has a non guaranteed contract, so the Jazz could acquire him, try him out until January and if they don't like him they can cut him and save 8 million dollars in salary cap space. But that wouldn't really make sense to use with a TPE and would be better used in a trade with an actual player.

There seems to be a little confusion on the TPE that I didn't see answered correctly, so here goes.

* The Jazz pick up a $13M TPE because Boozer's first year salary with Chicago is $13M.
* There is no 125% rule on TPEs. The Jazz can accept 100% + $100K, so $13.1 million will be the max.
* The benefit, of course, is that you get a year to complete the trade.
* The Jazz will use at least part of this TPE.
* A TPE can be split up. The Jazz could accept 6 players making $2M each if they chose (they probably wouldn't).
* Unless they get a great offer, the Jazz will most likely use this TPE next offseason (at draft time or before July 8).
* Look for them to use the Harp, Brewer and/or Maynor TPEs this offseason (keep under LT and those TPEs expire first anyway).

I think that's everything I saw. Any questions?
