Jazz Pushing For Jaylen Brown

I don't know if its quite that bad in one deal... but I will say it doesn't give me hope for the long term future of the franchise under Smith. Oscillating back and forth emotionally is just a recipe for mediocrity. Would be relying on dumbass luck. Which does happen... see Mavericks, Dallas.

We’re going to be on the wrong end of the SGA-PG trade. But we’re not going to end up with two top 5/10 players, we’ll have two top 40/30 players.

Let’s be honest, it’s not just going to be the 5th pick and some bad firsts. If it happens, Stevens will take us to the woodshed. From the outside, this looks like some Kangz behavior and we’re the Kangz.

Unfortunate reality: whatever we would hypothetically trade for Brown has a low likelihood of ever being as good as Brown. We’d be keeping that package under the hopes of the low-probability scenario.

But that’s not an endorsement of the deal. The only way out is through.

Jaylen Brown’s lack of handle makes him an off-ball 2nd option. Lauri becomes a 3rd option, which is fine. Keyonte and Flip/Taylor are complementary players as 4th and 5th starters.

But who is the on-ball primary supposed to be?

Youre at the bottom of the pool as a strategy though.

I want to get to shore (win a chip) not just tread water (make the play in for 3 years).
The strategy that has us squinting hard at Fears like he is some sort of answer? That "strategy" kinda sucks. I'm ready to move on, depending upon price.

Alright. I'm with ya there. This deal won't be the one that sinks us for 10 years but its the domino... its the indicator that we aren't smart or disciplined enough. Hopefully we can at least be a Rich Man's Kangz?

The 5th pick will 100% be in the deal if it happens.

I know old man Ainge thinks he's doing some 5th pick for Ray Allen deal like he did back in the day. 10000% guarantee this will be brought up by every Jazz writer if it happens.

If there's a second move loaded up and ready to go I wouldn't hate it, if we're just going to roll with Lauri + Jaylen and burn essentially two top 5 picks between this year and next year to do it, yuck.

I think we may be Raptors West. Just kinda doing **** lol.

You also have a perfect tank environment with every team in the West except for maybe NO not tanking. Kings could join the tank race... hear some rumblings they could sell off... but everyone is trying like hell to be competitive. Wait for some of them to hit the wall and profit off the tank... buy their **** when they give up.

Not sure I love this. #5 + contract fillers, sure. But as others have pointed out I'm just not sure where that leaves us.

Brown + Lauri (at ~28 y/o each) plus mediocre players around them doesn't put us in the top half of the West. I would have to hope it would be the first of a few roster-transforming moves that we'd make.

Jazz need to just keep stockpiling young talent through draft picks and other means
Don't get themselves trapped with old vets with massive contracts
That seems like the downfall of most teams

There's a price I'd be willing to pay, but I doubt that's the price he goes for.

Jaylen Brown is a good player, but not a #1 guy, and we can't afford to pay that price for him.

Assuming this actually goes down they would be on the hook to pay Lauri + Jaylen near $435 mil over the next four years for basically a #2 and #3 option. Neither which are primary ballhandler types. Add in the $150 mil extension they will likely need to pay Kessler. Not sure if that type of payroll is even sustainable. All 3 should have some sort of value for a future trade when they inevitably need to break up that core due to the aprons.

Also I thought part of the reason they dealt Donovan was due to his unhappiness in Utah. Can't imagine Jaylen Brown, the biggest social activist in the league, would be thrilled to be here either. I would highly assume the Ainges should have the inside scoop on that aspect of any potential deal.

It's interesting speculation but ultimately not sure this would be the right path for the Jazz to be taking right now.
