What's new

Jazz reaction to the Sterling ban.

People are crazy acting like they are so shocked racism and discrimination still exist.

A lot of people are still blind to how they themselves are discriminating. Very sad.

Racism
Gender bashing
Homophobia
Disability discrimination.

All alive and well in this world. If you think there is a difference in ethicality based on who you discriminate, or what you allow, you are the problem.
Disability while horrible, and something I do not condone is not the same as the other things you listed. Think it's more of a immature and moral compass issues then it is hate
You're right, why do today what we can put off til tomorrow? At some point this species has to say "enough is enough" otherwise we're destined to repeat the same process of "learn, build, destroy".
You just can't change people's views.
I'm at work so hadn't heard the details yet but if they did ban him for life I'm sure they have more on him then just this private conversation. Let us not forget his issues with the ex GM Elgin Baylor, he has had previous comments and run ins that for whatever reason never got as much attention as this, as well as I have also heard he had run ins back when he was part of low income "slum housing".

So if they have proof of all that they can use that history has a repetitive behavior pattern and hopefully make it stick. Also whoever said it, that this is bad business for the NBA and they can use that his actions are causing them to lose sponsors which = money. Cause as bad as this recording may have sounded, it is a private conversation and it isn't exactly against the law to be an old bigoted ahole.
Correct. It's not like it's a shock to those who know about Sterlings history.
I'll bet he sues. That's the kind of guy he is. It will be interesting to see what happens when he plays his NAACP lifetime achievement card.
good I hope he does. His past dealings will condemn him.
Wow what an overreaction this whole thing has become. It is ******** that they are taking away the team from him. He is being way over punished.
instead of destroying you on this board, I'm going to just assume you already didn't know he's a ****ing bigot who has had run-ins with guys like Elgin Baylor and Baron Davis. What comes around goes around. Yes the comments were made in the privacy of his home, but when your a known loser think last straw. Think of the backlash the nba could receive if they don't do what they did.

I'll bet most of us have said a thing or two in confidence that we'd not like broadcast to the world. I know I have.

If they involve referring to black people as universally "the enemy", then that person is a giant piece of **** as well and not fit to be a public figure of any stature whatsoever.

What Sterling said was racist and possibly stubbornly hateful, but I'm not sure I've ever heard of someone being forced out of business for making a stupid and racist remark. I guess something like this can end a political career or any other that relies upon a person's popularity.

The punishment should fit the crime, but I'm not sure what the crime is. Maybe this is classified as hate speech, and it violates the rules of NBA ownership.

It sounds like he's going to be forced to sell the team and be barred from attending NBA games....all because he made an ignorant comment that was surreptitiously recorded and shopped to TMZ. The whole situation just seems odd to me.

If he was caught using cocaine, or if he bet on games, or he hired a (male?) prostitute...do you think he would receive the same banishment?

I just don't know.

Michael Jordan allegedly once called Kwame Brown a ****ing ****** [insulting anti-homosexual slur] in a practice in front of other players, but nothing came of it.

Jason Kidd supposedly once beat his wife. Kobe Bryant attended criminal rape hearings right before a game. Karl Malone allegedly had sex with an underage girl.

Etc.

I'm just amazed at how this whole situation escalated.

The punishment should fit the crime, but I'm not sure what the crime is.

The crime is he is an embarrassment to humanity and is thus a HUGE liability to the company/league. If nothing else, it is in the best interest of the league to banish him to protect itself.

And I wouldn't call making a billion off the sale of his team that he paid almost nothing for and put almost nothing into until the last couple of years a punishment, exactly.

He's done worse in the public eye that got completely ignored by the nba. Like I said above. The nba would've taken a big hit had they not done anything. Sterling is in this position becuse of Sterling, and nothing else.

Never thought of it that way. Now im depressed. He's going to get off easy. Lol

Whether Charles Barkley or any other celebrity/public figure wants to believe it or not, they ARE subject to more scrutiny and they will HAVE to learn to be better people or pay the price. In this age especially, whatever cracks you have or you begin to develop will show, and I personally think that is generally a good thing because most people treat whatever fame they get as fuel for their god complex, not as fuel to better themselves.

So I guess this would be similar to getting fired for embarrassing the company with a scandal or a really stupid tweet.

Okay, I guess I understand it.

Does that picture mean "We are the nice white minority surrounded by the black emptiness"?

I kid. Not from the States. Ignore me.
No it means that we should all welcome Boylen as the next HC of the Jazz. There's simply no room for hatred anymore. Let UofU and BYU alumni come together.
