Jazz select Nigel Williams-Goss at 55

Dennis Lindsey misread the market for Hayward, that is the only reason why we don't have Hayward locked up for next season.
True. But back then, weren't many jazz fans saying Hayward should get $8-$10m tops? He was coming off a disappointing season. Ain't hindsight grand?

In any case, how do we know he wouldn't have wanted an opt out clause, even if he had signed a deal directly with Utah? He's a smart guy and knows the contract percentage climbs after 7 years. Also, we'd be having this same angst next season. There would be options for him next summer to go form a "super team."

Wow! Are you kidding me? Lindsey STILL gets Gobert and you criticize him for not picking him at #9 or #14? So only Milwaukee had a good draft because they took Giannis?

The previous GM put the Jazz in a terrible position by not having a competent PG on the roster. I blame him for Utah almost having to draft for need. As for Giannis, yes...ain't hindsight grand. He was viewed as having potential, but so have countless others in every single draft.

If anything, DL made a genius move. Got a PG (who apparently Corbin wanted) and knew he could still get back in the draft to take Gobert. And as much as some criticize him for missing a project in Giannis, only Utah valued Gobert as a 1st round talent. Although maybe SA would have taken him 28th. 1. There are 13 others who wished they would have taken an extremely raw prospect. 2. There were 26 chances for others to take an ever greener prospect in Gobert who had zero offensive skills, was rail thin and wasn't viewed as a top prospect.

I also remember this board during those days and if the Jazz would've come away in that draft without a PG there would've been a full on riot.

Now if Green would've said C.J. McCollum his argument would've made more sense, although he had plenty of detractors on this board he did have some small groups of support, but I remember most being concerned with the level of competition he played and if he could play PG in the NBA. The biggest support may have been for MCW (Michael Carter Williams) but again he had plenty of detractors most worried about his shooting. I think Burke had plenty of support before the draft but a lot of that was because he was projected to go well before the Jazz drafted him, so when he fell to MIN and the Jazz traded up to get him some people where happy and a lot of people didn't like how much the Jazz had to give up to draft him, saying he's not worth 2 first round picks and that picked up a lot of momentum and so he had a negative hanging over his head very early, oh and I almost forgot about Dennis Schröder, I think most people settled on being okay with him as he was an unknown so not much to hate on (other than limited offense) with lots of potential to dream on and he was projected to be there when the Jazz drafted.

That was a weak or very weak draft, the best 2 players were drafted 15 (Giannis) and 27 (Gobert) with lots of debate on who is the 3rd best player (Dennis Schröder@17, C. J. McCollum@10, Victor Oladipo @2, Steven Adams@12. My point being given the Jazz' situation at PG and even more so given the weakness of this draft I cannot be down on DL for the 2013 draft.

This fella has some old man post up moves from the guard spot, we'll see if he can do it in the NBA. Also like that Stockton recommended him so he'll be motivated to work with him that much more.

So two new PGs and maybe the russian dude, Hill we're prepared if you make the wrong the decision buddy.

Yeah, he'll even post bigger guys. Took #1 on UNC (name is escaping me), UNC's best defender and a physical 6'5" and schooled him. He's tough. Also love his ability to move his feet and stay in front on defense.

Didn't read all 6 pages of this thread...but I think Williams-Goss kinda reminds me of Deron Williams. His size and strength will allow him to muscle his way into the paint against smaller PGs. His shooting mechanics looks very similar to D-will's as well. Not sure if he's the same caliber of a passer as Dwill though...

NGW is NSFW...basically. Tee hee.

At least 3 people suggested in this thread that drafting a point with the #55 pick marks the end of G. Hill. Grow some brain ********* because that's just dumb... News flash, we are bringing in a new water boy for summer league which marks the end of Quin.

I can't say much about NGW as a player because I didn't watch him much, but this is what I like.

- Starter for a championship contender.
- DL said that he is one of the players who would thrive most in a slow paced game. He got a call from his coach and DL said you have 30 seconds. Coach convinced him. Interesting. Mostly based on Pace and accomplishments added to analytics.
- 1000:1 turnovers or something crazy like that.
- Fans of him as a player have been very positive on him. We had that a bit with Trey, but they were homers. The comments have been compelling.

The other thing that was interesting about this draft is that this is the year of the analytics for the Jazz. We traded up to get Bradley because he was a moneyball pick rated as a top 10 pick according to the anal-y-tics. NGW was also 'a lot higher up' according to the anal-y-tics staff. So, these are very much DL influenced picks. The fact that we grabbed Bradley and we jumped over JUST the Spurs makes me think we were looking through Spurs scoped glasses when we made the pick. I like the sound of that. Now it comes down to these guys to do the work.

So apparently calling somebody a bitch is worthy of an infraction?

Whole damn board should be getting infractions then.
Wassup bitch

I think the infraction was more for circumventing someone's ignore than it was for calling him a bitch. Or maybe for the combination of both.

I've seen plenty of people do that before. It's never been mentioned that that's not allowed.

Good grief. Thriller is the most condescending poster on this board. He should be able to handle somebody actually arguing against him.

I think wiggins is close to the impact player he was supposed to be.

Put up all star type numbers last year.

Agreed.

I thought he looked pretty good too.

I think sometimes people are over critical of some of Minny's players. They've had so much instability for so long that it's truly hard to build anything there. Maybe now with thibbs they've steadied the ship. Although, he's been prone to burning bridges too. We'll see.

But Embiid is the real deal...if he can stay healthy.

Jazz unlucky to have a top-5 pick in a terrible draft year. No criticizing Lindsey. He really didn't have better options.

But that's been his issue for... 4 or 5 years? "If he can stay healthy." He hasn't. Wasn't the past year his 3rd in the NBA? And as I remember he had injury issues at Kansas, right?

Reminds me of a shorter Denzel Valentine, who went #14 is his draft. Hope he turns into a fallen gem, he says he should have went higher at least! :D
