I'm optimistic. At least on the rebounding side of things. Per David Locke:

VERY happy to see there is definitely is going to be a shake-up, and I like the move.

However, it does bother me a bit to see Hawks fans acting like they just won the lottery. Nobody should be that happy about acquiring Devin.

Williams is just their CJ. A perpetual underachiever who isn't that great that they were just sick to death of.

Williams is a perfectly decent small forward, which would be totally fine if he hadn't been the second overall pick and then got a five-year, $35 million contract when his rookie deal expired. Compared to those expectations, he's been a disappointment. His lack of improvement over the past three seasons has been particularly deflating; despite a sign here and a flash there, his production hasn't budged an inch.

The best thing going for Williams is his midrange jumper -- he made 43.7 percent of his long 2s last season. However, he's been unable to extend his range to the 3-point line, which would make a huge difference for him in efficiency. Although Williams doesn't look for his offense, his size and athleticism often force opposing wings to foul him; he averaged 0.32 free throw attempts per field goal attempt without being terribly aggressive or tricky. Again, this tantalizes, but no turning of the corner appears in the offing.

Defensively, it's a similar story. Williams is a good, solid 3 with outstanding length and reasonable mobility, but he's not a guy who eats nails for breakfast. You don't want to match him up against top-notch scorers every night, although the Hawks often were forced to.

Basically, this is what he is. He's 25 and he hasn't progressed in three years. He'll have a nice career as a sometime starter at the 3, but I think we can stop projecting beyond that.

Not sure what he was on about here. He's seemed to have steadily improved his 3pt shooting (regular season):

09/10: 30.3%
10/11: 33.6%
11/12: 38.9%

Hopefully it's a permanent trend not just an outlier. KOC would probably know the answer to that....

I remember when ATL signed him that people were saying that even though they overpaid, they didn't really have a choice. I totally disagree with this. A bad deal is a bad deal.

If NJ resigns DWill they will have roughly $50MM tied up between DWill, Crash & JJohnson. That's easily the worst super team in the league. I wouldn't even consider them a super team, but NJ is paying them like they are.

Reminds me of the AK max contract. AK's contract kept the jazz from adding to the team, and made it hard to improve.

Yeah, we could be the best rebounding team in the league this year, or at least one of them, if our roster remains the same. I suppose our defense has perhaps improved too with Marvin at the 3 and more expected PT from Favors and Carroll as well. I imagine Mo's not so hot in that department but he seems to be a smart vet if nothing else.

Hmmmm...I wonder what their odds will be for over/under this season.

FWIW Terrance Williams was 3rd, Matt Barnes 5th, Tracy McGrady 6th, Luke Babbit 7th and Dominic McGuire 8th - so it's not exactly like that was a select group. I think Marvin is a very solid player, but seeing Locke tweet out isolated factoids like that is funny to me. Marvin also played PF at times in Atlanta - and I like his versatility and ability to guard multiple positions - but it also helps out his rebounding rate too.
 
I don't like this trade. I LOVE THIS TRADE.

I think Marvin Williams was a product of his environment. I think he will be great with Favors. He is a better player than Harrison Barnes and a better athlete. With Favors we will be running great down the court.

He is still pretty young at 26. He will be very motivated since this is essentially a contract year. I think he is an active player.

Now, I hope we can keep him when he opts out.

Agreed, but keep in in mind that he was the fourth option on offense behind Joe Johnson, Al Horford and Josh Smith. He was literally almost like an afterthought. I think this is a great pickup. He's young and can improve. He's not going to live up to the potential of being a number 2 pick, but we don't need that. He's a true SF who rebounds well, is an above average defender, is a decent shooter (FG, FT and 3PT). This is another great move by KOC this offseason, IMO. If he manages to sign Danny Green and trade Jefferson this off season for something of value, it would be a truly outstanding off season for us.
