Jazz vs. Trail Blazers (8:30 MT on TNT)

Clarkson was 4-12 and 1-6 from three with zero assists, zero rebounds and zero free throw attempts. 9 points on 12 shots. Team worst -14. 3 fouls. 20 minutes.

Reading the gamethread you would think he played great. Co workers act like he was awesome last night.

Burks would get crucified for having a statline like that. I don't think Burks ever played 20 minutes with zero rebounds and very very few times would he play that much and not get to the line or get an assist. Rarely did Burks ever take that many shot attempts in that few minutes yet was labeled a ball hog and blackhole. (Fwiw Burks has averaged 21.6 minutes for his career and 8.1 field goal attempts in those 21.6 minutes)

Burks and Clarkson are about the same age but Clarkson makes about 11 million more than AB.

Per 36 for their careers Burks averages more points, rebounds, assists, gets to the line more and turns it over less. Burks is also better three point shooter percentage wise (though on less attempts)

He started well, which is why people were stoked. He went ice cold though. The effort was there though he played some active D.

The guy I'm really happy about is Mudiay. He has been good and could get better.

He played aggressively on both ends of the floor and to be fair, there were a few no call obvious fouls that would've sent him to the line.

Also, it was his first game and he was very much assuming the role of lost puppy on the court in regards to positioning and what to do in team sets.

Cy's original point was that getting Collins and Nurkic back puts Portland back in contender status. I said, no, Nurkic doesn't do that for them and he went ballistic. In perfect Cy fashion he has morphed his argument to something else. Harkless/Aminu has nothing to do with it.

The Blazer's two best players are just as good, if not better than they were last year. Whiteside is filling in for Nurkic. The rest of the West just got a lot better, leaving the Blazers in the dust. Getting Nurkic, an average NBA starting center, back isn't going to be a league game changer.
Nurkic is leagues better than CJ

If you think Nurkic is average you don't watch him play. It's as simple as that. He's an AllStar caliber center who impacts the game at a high level and can hang individually with any of the elite centers

And yes, Nurkic is a league game changer because they aren't a playoff team without him and they are with him

People going off Clarksons box score lol. He easily got hacked on 3 of those attempts and did not get a call.

Please watch the game before making a judgement off someones game. He also literally just came in with 0 coaching before hand.

My original post was calling you out for having no knowledge of Nurks impact on Portland. Didn't say **** about contending for championships.

And again, if you think Whiteside offers anything close to Nurk on either end you are a casual NBA fan who doesn't know how to evaluate basketball in the slightest.

True
In regards to the first game thing though..... He has been in the league for a long time and what he has been is an inefficient chucker who doesn't get to the line enough, rebound, or pass and turns it over too much

Maybe quin will magically change him or will just simply not care that he plays that way but that's kinda of who has been.

Again, for their careers Burks has been the better scorer (on less shots), rebounder, passer, and had less turnovers. And many people (including quin) hated Burks game.

Still seems like you might fall into a rebound in 20 minutes just on accident.

Anywho even looking at their entire careers per 36 Burks averages more points (on less shots), rebounds, assists, less turnovers and gets to the line more and shoots better from 3 for 11 million less.

I'm just saying, even after he gets used to the system and teammates if he plays like he has the rest of his career then anyone who wasn't happy with Burks isn't going to be happy with Clarkson.

AB needed a change of scenery. I think JC will give us something similar but the ball will be in his hands more. He will get a bump in perceived production by simply being not-Exum.

It was a great trade for us... just getting off Dante’s money was a great deal. Getting a useful player is a nice bonus.

We shouldn’t read anything into last nights performance. Quin stayed with him too long... he doesn’t know where to be or how to fit yet... I don’t expect him to be that shot hungry normally.

I'd rather have a pre-injured Nurk than 2019 Whiteside. That said, no one knows what Nurks impact will be when he gets back. Even if he's 100% healthy, he had a dramatic injury that could **** with him mentally.
