Last book I read was "Hell House" by Richard Matheson. Gave me ****ing nightmares. Seriously. He is my favorite author. "I Am Legend" is my all time favorite and his short stories are killer. Stephen King states that no other author inspired him as much as Matheson. If you like King, you owe it to yourself to read Matheson. In general the books are quite short too. Easy reading that'll scare the **** out of you.

Sword of Truth series is EPIC.

I got it on my list but I have some books I need to read and only one book from the series has been translated to Turkish.

I think Legend of the seekers TV Show has been based on the books but I didn't hear that it was good.

Since almost every time books are better than movies (exception being Lord of the Rings, as those books was annoying to read and the shows were awesome). I'd rather read the book 1st. But in this case knowing the story line has not ruined the show for me. Now in the case of Stephen King Books made into movies....The Movies always leave you saying WTF that was a good book just destroyed by that horrible movie.

Exceptions.... green mile, shawshank, stand by me

All King btw.

So if anyone prefers reading the book before watching the movie, then you better get started on this:

My all-time favorite book.

There are plenty of other exceptions. Silence of the Lambs is a great movie, but the book barely makes the "beach literature" list. Jurassic Park is a generally **** book, but the movie is well-liked (but not by me). And did you know that Die Hard was based on a book?

The show was crap. Absolute dog crap.

For me it is totally different. I really enjoyed the first LOTR movie, but I think the other 2 are crap. Plus reading the books they left much to be desired. Too many shortcuts...
The Game of Thrones problem was I knew about the wedding once I visited a wiki page as I wanted to refresh my memory about Catelyn Stark after the 1st episode. Yeah it was pretty much over then...I've made the experience in general to rather first watch the movie, as vice versa it has been more disappointing.
I know Stephen King is popular, and I've tried once a book in the past but found his capability of imagination combined with humanity and logics disappointing. Never touched sth from him again.

Except Green mile Book was tons better than the movie and I really did not enjoy the movie. Shawshank and Stand by me are great. But they were also more of short stories than novels. Funny thing is his 2 best movies are mostly outside of his normal genre. Carrie was a decent movie as well but the book was far better.
.
Pet Cemetary, It, Needful Things, Christine, Salem's Lot and probably a few more were pathetic movies and really good books. Never seen the movie for Cujo but that was a good book as well.

Have you read the LOTR books? To me they were really hard to read and too slow paced. The movie cut out a lot of the boring parts and skipped to the action without losing the general feel of the story. Tolkien is just too long winded for me. He spends an inordinate amount of time describing a scene without moving the story along well enough. LOTR to me was a great story told in a very bad way. The movies I enjoyed quite a bit. Though I read LOTR because I loved the Hobbit book.
.
I've read the 1st 4 Game of thrones books twice and still fully enjoy the show. The red wedding was one of the episodes I was most looking forward to. The look on my wife's face at the end (who has not read the books) was classic. It's too bad that one episode is the reason she has sworn off watching the series.

Huh, I didn't know there was a movie for needful things..... I will have to check that out.

I have read almost all of kings work (probably around 40 of his books)
Just finished joyland a couple of days ago.... it was ok.

I'm gonna be reading these wheel of time books for what seems like the rest of my life (I'm in the middle of book 5 right now) and I'm kinda getting sick of em, but once I start a story I have a hard time not finishing it.
Hopefully I wont regret finishing the series

Well it is said that books quality drop after book 6-7 but I had the same pleasure nonetheless. You will definitely think quitting at book 10 since there is almost nothing in that book. 11th book is a great one though.

Once you get that many books set in the same universe you start basically getting history lessons in said universe. Not everything is the Alamo or Normandy or the opening of the Berlin wall, lots of it is steady economic growth, weather, crop reports, and time spent on forums. Yawn.

I actually read them twice. First time when I was like 10 I think and again before the first movie was released. We seem to value different things while reading.

Watching GoT I was like: yeah if I didn't know what happens next I'd be really excited for the battle about to happen...But hey it's not gonna happen anyways. The only storylines where I didnt accidentally stumbled over spoilers were the one beyond the wall, which wasn't that exciting this season plus the one with the crazy torturing *******.
With so much emphasis on the liberation of the Stark kids and reign of Joffrey I was kind of bored most of the time.

Speaking of books that got made into movies, has anyone ever watched "The Stand" mini-series? I read the book about a month ago and it was pretty awesome. My mom told me they made a mini-series out of it in the early 90's, wonder if it was worth checking out.

I've read the book and watched the mini-series... can't really remember much about either one.

Same as gameface. I read the book and watched the movie. I remember the basic plot but very little of the details of either one. I remember liking the TV series. I loved the book.
