What's new

Jeremy Evans = Stromile Swift?

The fact that he is 23 and hasn't added weight tells you his frame and metabolism doesn't support it, thats why I don't really like the pick. I'm sure they could force 20 pounds on him but it would just kill his hops and lead to injury. His one chance of making it in this league is improving his shot a little so he can play the three.
Or they don't have a great weight program at Western Kentucky. We're not talking about a top Div1 school.
And maybe Evans didn't have the money to go out and buy supplements, get on a high protein diet, etc. I know when I went to college I didn't exactly have the best diet. Whatever was on sale - that's what I bought at the store. It's infinitely cheaper to buy Top Ramen instead of Top Sirloin.

If he just puts on 10 lbs. of muscle...with his athleticism he could probably hold his own against most backup PF's.

What the hell is wrong with Top Ramen?

One of the reasons that Jeremy didn't put on a lot of weight at WKU is that he was also a member of the Track and Field team (high jump). He did work at adding strength (and was successful in that regard), but didn't work at bulk too much. I imagine if he knew then that he would have a legitimate shot at the NBA he probably would have focused on basketball only and on adding bulk, but hindsight is 20/20. I still do not think that he will end up a monster like Dwight Howard or anything (265lbs), but Tyrus Thomas (225lbs) is a very reachable goal for Jeremy. I can already see that he has added some bulk to his chest and shoulders since the end of the season at WKU, so I expect an entire Summer of training can get him into the 210 range.

To the guy who said that WKU isn't a major D1 program, I won't bother with a response, but I am sure some of the other alums won't be able to resist. There are a lot of WKU fans who get very upset when someone belittles the athletics programs (especially when it is a result of ignorance).

Hey man, thanks for the insight. Evans just needs to eat and train like a **** and he should have no problem bulking up. Hopefully he'll make the roster this year!

I actually grew up with jeremy and played high school ball with him. No one on this thread has any clue about him. He can do way more than jump really high. His range actually extends to about 25 to 30 feet out. He can shoot the three, mid range, defend, rebound whatever. Alot of Jazz fans and Nba fans are going to be surprised when he plays. Jeremy is type of player that is very unselfish one that passes first and shoots second. Thats why his stats werent as high at wku because he doesnt just jack up shots like most players. Our coach in high school had to make him shoot the ball because he was so unselfish. And as for comparison to a player he is more like a kevin durant type of player. He's not a post player he played out of position for four years at wku. He played the wing in high school and thats what he'll be in the Nba.

Yeeeaaaauuhhh! We drafted a kevin durant! :-) I'm excited to see him play. The Jazz have always done a great job of drafting in the second round, and it sounds like they've done it again. Plus, anyone that would go on the rural camp trip without a guaranteed contract is alright in my book.

Seen JE play, in person, multiple times. As I said before, a "wtf?" pick when I saw it. There were many great picks we passed up for JE in this draft. Wear the Jazz glasses, time will prove we made the wrong pick .. sorry.

(ask me to share who does better, that was drafted later/undrafted, and I'm happy to tell)

Didn't like the pick at #9 either.

FA though, A+ !!!

'Veterans' bash away.

Jarvis Vernado was a summer league monster for the Heat in a game I saw. Evan's team beat Vernado's team although Evans fouled out and Vernado was statiscally superior.

These are the stats from the year before when wku played mississippi state. Evans outplayed Vernado what now? So why cant a player have a bad game?

What now? Only to watch Varnado outplay JE over a paid career. Not fair to compare the two, there's that much difference.

I've read he's got a high basketball IQ and was very unselfish with the basketball. Didn't know he had an outside shot.
He actually sounds like AK when he first played for us; tall and skinny! Hope he can bulk up as well as Hayward seems to be doing:D

Wtf are you talking about. Do you even know what basketball is? You actually can compare the two because Evans was holding Varnado in the game
