Why do people seem to believe that a good defensive team is unable to be a good offensive team? I don't believe that is the case. I do believe the Jazz decided to start with the defensive focus while they let their younger stars "grow" into their comfort zones in the league, at which time the offense will come (experienced players executing a well designed offense that gets lots of fast breaks due to excellent defense does sound like a championship recipe to me).

Chris Paul and Blake Griffindorf have similar weakness to Stockton to Malone. In the playoffs, sometimes you just need to give the ball to a one guy and tell him to beat the other team. Thats what the beard did. It is what Lebron does. It is how young Wade got his championship, it is how Steph will probably get his, Jordan did it 6 times (should've been 8) and Kobe. That is why when the Jazz win the lottery tomorrow I want them to draft DeAngelo Russell.

I remember watching the 1st half of Game 6 between the Clippers and Rockets and thinking. . . "Damn. They're both so sloppy." Fast breaks and an accelerated pace work IF you protect the ball and make your shots. It was painful to watch both teams play offense and (what amounted to defense) early on. Like they just wanted to try to outrun each other and totally ignored defense, rebounding and taking good, smart shots.
I much, much, much prefer the Jazz deliberate pace with an emphasis on team defense, rebounds and making each possession count. While Utah had a higher TO rate than I'd like, I think that can be heavily attributed to their collective youth. Give them time to develop (as a team and as individuals) with that same commitment to defense and a better understanding of Snyder's offense, and I think that the Jazz would have shut down both of the teams that I saw in that crap-tastic game.
Don't see a tactic for a couple games against a really tired team color your understanding our playing a different style. The Clippers were exhausted and the Rockets were forcing them to expend energy.

Not sure who you're talking about but the saying is, Offense wins games but Defense wins championships. As the previous posts about ranking proves/states .
Another saying is Defense travels, that is more of a football saying but it applies to all sports really.
Also defense is why I think Clippers are peaked, their offense is really good but some of their individual players are to flawed to be good in the playoffs, also to a lesser degree the same applies with the Rockettes IMO.

I think Hood proved that he can do it, and Burks is still unproven under Snyder. The 1st thing I'd do is make a hard run at Chip Engelland. Let the "Shot Doctor" work on Hayward, Burks, Exum, Ingles and even Burke and I think you'd see a HUGE improvement in that area.
Then next year look for a mercenary in the FA market to go after.

As Ellis said, Hood has shown he can be one of those guys. And don't forget Hayward. He's decent, but not stellar from the 3PT line, but his other skills make him a tough cover...if teams can't key on him. All Utah really needs is a PG who can shoot. Jazz were often 3-on-5 on offense with no offense from Dante and little from Millsap/Inlges (until Hood cam back from his injury).
