Let's pump the breaks a little bit. Keyonte probably reached the tier of Sharpe, LaVine, Powell and Ingram but there is clearly another level for him to ascend before we can start comparing him to true stars like Booker, Brown and Butler.

He's playing much better than Booker lately, it isn't even close. Similar offensive stats to Brown lately(both avg 28.4 PTS in last 5 games) but better 3PT% and more AST for Key. Butler hasn't been quite as good offensively over the last five games.

Yeah, that's cherry picking a little. He doesn't have nearly the TS%, counting stats, or net rating as those guys. Still good company to be in.

When a guy has >25% usg% and >25% ast% they are carrying a huge offensive load, if you are able to do that and maintain at least league average efficiency you are a very good player.

I think it's very fair to say that Keyonte is on an all star path though. He's only 22 and playing at a near all star level.

Yesterday I posted that I felt like his 3 point percentage was way up in his last five games or so but I hadn't looked it up so thanks for the confirmation.

Seems like key has played better against better opponents as well which is nice.

Booker, Brown and Butler were the engines of effective offenses for deep playoff runs. And Keyonte put nice stats for several games - on below-average efficiency and playing for a tanking team. And I am not even going to start talking about his defense.

He still has much work ahead of him to be referred as a star. Unless we are talking about the stardom of Cam Thomas.

you call it cherry picking, i call it raising the bar*. you came up with the stats, i just increased them to the level he's at. all that remained were league MVPs.

Below-average efficiency?
 
Taking into account his age and experience and consistent improvement I'd say his overall numbers this year are probably more of the floor, not the ceiling.

28.4 PTS/ 7.4 AST/ 5 REB/ 1.8 STL on 49%FG and 40% 3PT over the last five are all-star numbers, right? I looked, yes they are. Naysayers will say, "but he's on a tanking team." So yeah it might be premature but at least he can put those numbers up for five straight games. He also has elite athleticism and draws fouls so he's going to get his even when his outside shot is not falling.

  • PER: Approximately 21.3 (based on P/40 stats)

2024-25 Regular Season
