Keyonte George Hype & Appreciation Thread

You seem to be misunderstand or just arent aware. Many plays last year Keyonte would make a mistake and sulk, and not get down the court. He does that far less often and yes, that is being better on defense. Its got nothing to do with having a "locked in" face.

If you want to judge his defense strictly on the basis of sulking, have at it. My point is that this sulking factor is negligible compared to the other things that actually make him horrible. Maybe he improved that small thing by 80%.....on the whole he's still one of the worst defensive players in the entire NBA. That has not changed and on paper you could argue it has gotten worse. Him sulking or not has not changed his standing as a defensive player at all.

Getting back or not getting back on defense isnt negligible...

There are maybe 2-3 Keyonte bad pass live turnovers per game where has a prime opportunity to sulk. He's on the court on average for 60 more defensive possessions per game.

What happens on those 2-3 possessions is pretty negligible in consideration to 60 possessions. Even though his effect on those turnover possessions is much greater than your standard, run-of-the-mill half-court D.

And I'd disagree with the 80 %. Maybe 40 %, at best.

Maybe, but my memory is that the bad moments last year with him not getting back where really bad, and they arent this year. His advanced metrics are up across the board ever so slightly. I think we are being a bit doomer when we act like he hasnt improved at all defensively. I see better effort.

It has been much better since going to the bench in my opinion. Before that it was a mixed bag. He's still not effective, but actually trying is the first step.

Someone should do a video mix of all the plays where Keyonte gets screened hard and acts like it's a personal insult that he never saw coming.

He does theatrical spins, he makes disgusted faces, he flails his arms... anything to avoid actually fighting through those screens and remaining in contact with his guy.

Keyonte now has a 0.5 OBPM for the season. His overall BPM is 2.5 points better than last year and we have people acting like he is the same player he was last year.
Maybe it’s the slow start to start the season. That makes people not be able to see past what he did last year. Someone here even went as far as to say his defense was even worse this year than last which isn’t true. He's not good but improved. Hes also still not good at finishing inside but he’s also improved over last year. Hes also improved his efficiency. It’s not great, but improved. He’s been under 40% FG all year last year and until recently this year he’s just gotten over 40% for the year and over the last two months he’s shooting 42% not great but a huge improvement over last year and first two months of the season. He’s also improved his ability to get to the line more often, and ten times the playmaker he was last year or even the first couple months of this year.

Bottom line is he’s made significant strides between last year and now, and he’s only going to get better over the next few years. I can’t wait to see what he becomes.

I thought he had several great defensive possessions in the Houston game.

He's not quite there yet, but he's getting close te being the best George in the league.
