ok. I'm just showing how there are better ways to accomplish the same thing.
Pretty sure that figure is at least slightly exaggerated/wrong and in year two we don't know anything. If the whole season is locked out then the Jazz win, but I don't think that's happening. If there isn't a lockout at all, the Jazz only save $10 million at absolute most, and since that salary would likely push the Jazz over some penalizing threshold, the savings further diminish and for a guy that won't have a spot in the rotation with a healthy roster. Doesn't seem sound at any level to me. This is one hell of a gamble whose ONLY possible pay-off is financial (but could swing wildly depending on factors completely out of control of the Jazz).

Even with the 18 million dollar difference for this season, it still commits us to 9million for next season; net savings 9mil plus we have to deal with Diaw for another year. That other year is why this deal simply wouldn't be worth it.
It makes more basketball sense to look for something else or even let AK expire and have that open chunk of change. It makes more financial sense to do a trade like this (but hopefully not exactly what has been reported of this trade). We will see what we end up with.

That's an example of the spin already in action. They took the highest payout amount that's ever been given out. No one knows what the payout will be this year.
They let AK go and it's almost like a new team: Boozer gone, Brewer gone, Korver gone, Matthews gone, Maynor gone, and now AK; that's half our team from the start of last season. What is KOC thinking, or is it Miller-motivated? Yes, sounds like fiscal conservativism to me, like Sirkick said.
I'll believe they're committed to spending the money when they spend the money.
Everyone loves to tell me what I should think based upon my job. Coincidentally, it always agrees with what they think.
Here's the real answer: You're right, I am a lawyer. And guess what, that means that I believe that until you actually start signing checks you haven't indicated you're committed to spending the money. The Millers are working to get out from under the tax at the first available opportunity and before training camp.
That's just what I read. We would save 16-18 million dollars next year. I don't like this trade at all, but that is a boatload of money.

We need to demand more from Denver in terms of talent. Denver is desperate to get rid of Melo before camp. Affallo or Anderson or both. We deserve more talent and Afallo could learn from Bell and replace him after his contract. Anderson could obviously help us.
