Statistically you have way higher odds being struck by lighting then attacked by shark.

That is a misleading statistic being that more people live where lightning occurs (basically everywhere) than where sharks live.
And even people who live near areas where sharks are (beaches) don't always even go into the ocean. (Though I think if you live near a beach and don't go to the beach and in the ocean then you are an idiot)
 
It evens up as shark attacks can happen all year round in those areas while lighting strikes are seasonal in a lot of areas.

I believe that sharks migrate from place to place depending on the season/weather.
Also, not many people are at the beaches in Washington, new jersey, northern cali, hell even southern cali and Florida and everywhere else in winter time
