This is about what I think would be a good and fair extension for Derrick Favors, even if the guarantee was $48m.

Decent news for the Jazz. This should set the ceiling for a Favors extension if the two parties go that route.

Hopefully the Jazz are able to re-up Gordo and Derrick for $20mm (or less) per year combined.

I think it sets the floor more than it does the ceiling.

That seems a lot for a guy who hasn't really done much but block shots and rebound. Sanders got exposed in the Miami series and has little offensive game.

I still think Favors is in the 10-$12 million range only if he has a good offensive year. When you are paying guys 12 million a year you need them to do more than block a few shots and grab rebounds. If I were the Jazz I would offer Favors 11 million with bonuses to 12 million a year for four years. I would also consider front loading his contract because next year the Jazz will have money to spend.

I doubt the Jazz are going to be able to keep both Favors and Gordon under 20 million. I doubt Gordon is going to take 8 million if he has a big year. I would front load Gordon's deal starting at 10 million and ending at 8 million for four years. Unfortunately if the Jazz wait then Paul George will set the market for Gordon.

$20M for both? That's a pipe dream. Favors will get $12M-$14M and Gordon $10-12M. These are players valued highly enough to be invited to the national team tryouts. Gordon is going to be an 18 pt/per scorer with one of the highest shooting percentages amongst wings. If the Jazz don't lock him up early, someone will step forward with a BIG contract. Same with Derrick. Favors is a defensive monster with an improving offensive game. If fouls don't hold him back, his scoring will likely double. And both of these players are only going to get better through the length of their contracts. I predict the Lakers go hard after one - or both. LA will have loads of cap space.

Uh...So was Sanders, who's accomplished more than Derrick to this point in their respective careers.

Why do yall insist that Gordon is equal to paul George? What George signs for will have no bearings on Gordons contract. Do yall even watch basketball? Eye test shows Paul georvge is 3 times the player Hayward is

Because Favors has accomplished more and has been better than Larry Sanders?

No kidding. I'm a fan of Favors, encouraged by his work with Malone this summer, and hope this year offers him a big opportunity to improve. But he's got to improve in a big way. Having potential doesn't mean anything if it never emerges, and if I'm writing the checks for Jazz players (which I'm not) I'm going to think a Sanders comparison is more than fair at this point.

I wish the extention was done all ready. I'd love to know they were getting close to signing one.

C'mon Jazz, put a ring on it.

Sanders is a better defender right now than Favors.

Favors also isn't that far behind, draws fouls at a higher rate, and has more offensive potential. You are paying a little extra to Favors IMO because of potential. Just the way it is.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But wasn't it Larry Sanders and the bucks that Favors went off on and scored 22 points in 3 quarters?

Of course, their true market value will not be known unless they reach restricted free agency. Maybe it will be less. Or it could be a situation like Millsap or Okur. We offered more for Memo than he was worth in order to ensure that Detroit wouldn't match. Portland offered what they thought would be a poison pill for Utah, but Greg stepped up with the up-front money.

Maybe I'm too uptimistic...blame that on being a fan. I just think in the absence of other "stars," Hayward and Favors are going to have ample opportunity to up their averages across the board. Hayward on the basis of more involvement; Favors by playing more minutes. They're young, highly regarded and I wouldn't be surprised to see both attract a lot of interest around the league. Teams will be clearing space for the big name FA's. If/when they miss out, Gordon and Derrick will be in that next tier down. And the justification for significantly overpaying is their youth: both still have tremendous upside and should grow into their contracts, perhaps even become "bargains" by the end of those deals. That's good reason to sign either to a big offer sheet and hope Utah doesn't match.

Its good news. Favors has more potential obviously, but think after seeing Pek's and Sander's deals, Derrick accepts 12 million a year.

Current contracts unproven players with one or two good seasons are getting is ridiculous, that's all I can say. Neither Sanders nor Pekovic are worth what they are getting paid, sadly this will force Jazz to overpay as well.

What? They are both worth it. Starting centers are worth 10 million a year base average.

Sanders is Garnett Lite. He deserves $10M-$12M. Favors has to prove this season if he's worth that much. Though it's not his fault that he didn't prove anything yet.
