What's new

Last good song you listened to?

I have no idea if I'm the first one to post this here, probably not. It is definitely NSFW (language, not images, altho they're disturbing), but it's massively important.

I posted it a couple pages ago. It's a great song that deals with a complicated issue.

This thread needs more voices. I love your suggestions @gandalfe and you have vastly increased my musical library, but I know there is so much more out there.

So to anyone who reads this please add to this thread. Music is one of those things that makes life great.

His latest track, Suic!de, is maybe even more powerful and pwersonal. I'm not posting it specifically because it's maybe too controversial and raw.

I try to not dominate the posting here, but sometimes I just get on a binge. I am always listening to new stuff, in all different genres, all different styles. I remember I used to say I like everything except country and rap. Then it was just country. Now, probably the only genre I don't like is opera, and I'm willing to be convinced. Don't get me wrong, I still only (mostly) like quality, but I've learned that comes in all shapes and sizes.

But, yes, more people need to post more stuff. I am down with that.

I may have posted in here sometime in the last 13 years, who knows. So apologies for any duplicate thoughts if they exist.

The most beautiful part about Spotify is the access it has given me to discover music I never had the chance to as a youth in the 90's. Back then, I was lucky to have $15 bucks at any given time and it was usually spent on a CD. All of my limited funds and musical attention went to Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Stretsch Armstronng, The Aquabats, Toad the Wet Sprocket and mother****ing Primus. I didn't have the time or money to dig deep into stuff like Led Zeppelin, the Beatles or the Doors.

Now, thanks to Spotify, I have the luxury of dabbling. I can give a listen to Led Zepp and see how it feels. I can witness the brilliance of the Beatles. I can try out the Doors or Neil Young and decide its not for me. But getting Spotify was like getting God's Ipod.

Here's the problem. Sometimes in dabbling, you fall in a hole that you can't get out of, nor do you want to. I grew up cataloging Pink Floyd in my mind as a heavy metal band. I didn't know any better, and after "dabbling" I have found I rarely listen to anything else. Pink Floyd ****ing RIPS.

Long story short, enjoy Echoes my new favorite song by my new favorite band that has been around for 50 years. Set aside some time, smoke a J (literally or figuratively) and remember, Pink Floyd is NEVER in a hurry to get where they are going.

My least favorite PF album is the Wall, just because that was what everyone always played, I got sick of it. But Roger Water era was definitely my favorite. I'd say my favorite of their albums is either Wish You Were Here or The Final Cut, it depends on what kind of day I'm having.

While I never classified PF as a heavy metal band, I definitely did that with Rush - and, hey, they started out as metal, right? A friend of mine turned me on to Power Windows (objectively one of their worst, but it still holds a special place in my heart) and then I heard 2112 and I was hooked. And since you mentioned partaking in a substance which is legal in my current jurisdiction...

This is one of the most popular opera songs ever, so I assume you've heard it. In the off chance you haven't it's one that I enjoy.

Nope, still not really doing anything for me. Like, I can obviously recognize the talent, just not hitting me emotionally. Maybe it's just the instrumentation I don't like? It's weird, because I generally enjoy watching the best in the world do what they're best at, be that sports or videogaming or math or acting or music.

Anyway, this one is awesome. She actually lives about 30 minutes away from me, but I have never just, like, driven up to her house and thrown myself at her feet, altho that would be appropriate, given her talent level.

If you enjoy the best doing what they are best at you should check out this one. One of my favorite bands and their drummer is superb.
