I posted this idea in another thread, but I wanted to expound on it a bit because I think the idea is intriguing. I do expect some people to hate it, but regardless it seems to makes sense.

So the big question is at hand. Who should we draft? Assuming we are out of the top 3, who is the right guy? If we drafted Aaron Gordon, do you think he could play the 3? I have my questions about whether Jabari is really a 3 at the next level because of defense and he's not really a 4 either which worries me. I mean, he could play the 3 but he might be a big liablilty and can you win a title with your best player being a disaster defensively.

If we can't get Wiggins, I think I like Randle, Embiid (is the back an issue?) or Exum the most. Assuming that we don't get into the top 3, and we had a chance at Randle, I would take him. He is explosive and Athletic and he has some skills. Not only that, He's young and only going to get better.

That being the case, our lineup could look like so:

Burke/Neto (hoping he's even better than garrett)/ Garrett
Nik Stauskus (stretchs the floor; I think he's gonna be a good pro)/Burks (Like the offensive off the bench)
Hayward (I like him better as a 2 as well, but he can play the 3.)/ Solid Vet (Jefferson?)/ Marvin Williams
Randle/Marvin Williams/Kanter
Favors/Kanter/ Gobert

When looking at this, I try and trade Kanter to get another asset or a nice affordable vet. I like Kanter a lot, but might be the one that does not fit. The deal would have to be right though. I would not trade him for nothing. I might also make a run at McDurmott if I can grab him because he can shoot. We just dont have too many shooters. That's why I draft Stauskus. He can really shoot it and he has put the ball on the floor a bit this year which is cool. Not bad size either at 6'6.

I really believe Favors and Randle would be great together, especially if Randle becomes an elite passer as a big man. It would be fun to watch them too! With the right coach and the right system in place I think the team could be very formidable.

If we ended up with both these players, we could call the draft a success, imo.

I wouldn't take Randle any higher than 5th doe

For me, the draft order at the top goes:

1) Wiggins
2) Embiid (assuming his back checks out he's a real center and a potentially dominant one at that)
3) Exum (I think he's an All Star and near-franchise player who is going to stuff the stat sheet)
3a) Parker (I think he's going to be better than Paul Pierce due to his length and rebounding. Not a franchise guy, but part of a Big Three.)
5) Randle (measurements matter, but he's the best PF in the draft)

I think the Jazz will be in business if we get a Top 5 pick. I also think the Jazz FO will have put a lot of thought into this draft--as evidenced by their tanking the season from the getgo. I think the Jazz are willing to trade one of their young players if they see a guy they really like within reach.

The next players in the draft order get a bit fuzzy for me, but I think:

6) Vonleh -- He's still learning the game, but he's got as much potential (or even more) than Favors does as a PF.

7) Aaron Gordon -- Good athlete and wildcard player, but not a guy you can design plays around, and you can't have him take too many shots away from other guys who can shoot.

8) Marcus Smart -- He's the next guy probably, but I would consider trading this pick or just reaching for a guy like Kyle Anderson or Doug McDermott. I don't think Smart really fits here, and he might be like Dion Waiters in Cleveland.

Taking McD over Smart would be such a fail.

It is Stauskas. AS not US. It drives me nuts when people can't even bother to spell players last name correctly.

I'm just not sure where to play Smart with the Jazz. He needs to be a bruising PG or combo off the bench. He's undersized and underskilled to be a starting SG. Unless you like him over Burke at PG, which could be valid, but teams are going to back off him.

I think McDermott will be a decent pro in the Ryan Anderson mold, but with more inside game. He plays hard, which Jazz FO probably likes.

I don't see how Randle can fit with Favors. Kanter has a much better outside shot than Randle and can stretch the floor better.

Its too bad Randle can't play the 3.

It really is hard to say who I want because it all depends on who is available. Yes I know it is nice to speculate and that is why we have a draft thread. It is possible that neither of the guys are there or they might both be there but the Jazz have other players we like now. Yes I know this is obvious but I thought it was obvious that all draft comments should be in the draft thread. :D

As a Michigan Alum, I would of course like Nik Stauskus and Trey Burke back together again on the same team. Nik's game has grown 180-degrees this season. He is a more athletic Kyle Korver. Definitely worthy of Utah's late first rounder.

Randle is Boozer 2.0 at best, so I'm not sure. If he is the best player available, then of course grab him, but I wouldn't reach for him. He can score and rebound, but like Boozer has difficulty scoring against longer, taller defenses and at least Boozer had a great offhand and that crazy high arc to his shot. With him, Kanter, and Favors that middle would be clogged like crazy.
