Locke: Hayward has declined the offer to play for Team USA

My hand is raised ,Hayward will be a All-Star this year ,Exum is back,Burks is back,Favors and Gobert healthy, and a better player in Hill in the rotation, the Jazz will win more games and the Leader is Hayward

The Jazz second unit is going to be awesome. Lyles will be much improved, Mack/Ex/Hill will be a great point guard rotation, and if Burks plays close to the whole season we only really have a hole at backup 3 and 5.

Jazz could win 15 more games than last year.

15 is a lot.

I won't bash him at all, but if this was his dream he may never have another shot at it again.

Maybe not, but if he misses his child's birth, when will he get another shot at that?

The only reason he had a shot this year is because everyone else is turning it down. Not really a great feeling that you only made it because others said no. Including the whole Zika virus thing, I can totally understand his decision.
Really? If everyone keeps saying no and they eventually ask me I'm saying yes. I don't really understand why someone wouldn't go because of Zika. Are these people unaware of birth control? Don't they have any idea how cool the Olympics is?

Hey green...what's more impressive? Olympian or all-star?
Good question..... Do guys usually decline being an all star?

This makes me happy.

This is a win-win. Hayward gets the league-wide recognition of being an Olympian, without actually going out there and playing games for Murikah.
Does that mean that the other guys who declined before Hayward get the recognition of being an Olympian too?
This might be the most Olympians ever for a single olympics due to all the guys that are declining.

Great to hear. After a ton of minutes last season Hayward needs to use this off-season to get ready for next years Western Conference Finals.

not just basketball either. Some high profile golfers as well as other sports. This virus thing must be legit if that many are declining the Olympics.

Yeah, I'll refrain from posting pics of Zika babies, but no one wants that.

Its cool he was invited but I'm glad he isnt going. He always seems a bit gassed at the end of the year, so we need him in tip top shape.

I agree, Hayward played the second most minutes this season and ran the second most miles this season. I am pretty sure he has been at the top of that list for 3 years in a row.

this. the burden on him, offensively and defensively, has been enormous. the focus of every defensive scheme, and often guards the other teams best player. I can't wait until he gets some adequate help

If it is a dream of his then why would he decline?

His wife is pregnant and I think she is due around the same time of the Olympics. Sometimes people sacrifice their dreams for their family. Call it a crazy life choice, but most people don't seem to regret it.
