This is pretty much how I feel. I'm not really siding with the owners, but I do believe the majority of the players aren't really being represented here, so much as the big names. I guess I'm blaming a small percentage of the players.

If this is really being held up by system issues - specifically the fines incurred in the new LT - this is more about the small guys than the big ones. You don't acquire huge contract guys to go from over the cap/under the tax to over the tax.

Haven't the players seen what happened to the NHL players?

Because revenue has been growing so much in the NHL since their lockout, players will now receive 57% (players' revenue share is on a sliding scale dependent on total revenue...a policy way too sensible for the NBA). NBA players won't be getting anything near that. I don't understand what you're trying to say here.

Just so we all understand how the NHL will destroy the NBA if there's an extended lockout, here are the annual salary cap numbers in the NHL since the lockout:

The NHL is booming- 9% growth per year in the NHL salary cap, even with the recession, as opposed to 3% growth per year since 05/06 in the NBA salary cap- and if the NBA goes away, they'll swoop in and get some half decent TV deals, leaving the NBA out in the cold. The owners certainly dragged their feet far too long on this thing, but I'm surprised the players aren't willing to get this thing finalized now(especially since it's only going to be a 6-year deal).

The arrogant ignorance about the NHL on this site is quite a head-scratcher. Overall, the NHL product has been fantastic since the lockout, and fans are responding (IIRC, attendance numbers are better in the NHL than in the NBA...not that that's saying much).

8 bucks a dog? I can get 16 nathan dogs for that at the grocery store....cook them up, cover them with mustard and onions....and have a blast watching movies I've already seen!

For the record, I think Stern is a douchebag, but Billy Hunter is making a huge mistake if he thinks getting into a battle of the wills with Stern is anything but a losing game. Stern and his owners are completely ready to sit out the season and there is noway that the majority of NBA players are. Not only that, after they sit out a year, the NBA and Stern are only going to have MORE leverage. Like Stern warned about a week ago, the deals aren't getting any "better" for the players the longer they sit out.

One thing is for sure, they're definitely going to swoop in and get my viewing this winter. Even if the NBA comes back for a shortened season, I'm getting bitter enough to just say **** it and not watch.

At this point, the NBA is so far from being "about the game", it's pathetic.

it is kind of amazing that a union can claim to represent both Kobe and, say Jeremy Evans. Kobe is due more than 30 times the salary Evans is this season.

I think less of Fisher than most, but this is a little out there.

A stricter spending cap on teams means less money for players. It's that simple.
