Looking for genuine discourse re: Donald Sterling/NBA

However, one of the only things more despicable is all of the people feigning outrage now, when it's been known that this dude has been a racist for years.

So, people who ignore(I suppose we ought to pretend that everyone follows the NBA and that the Clippers had been in the news before 2012) racism are more despicable than racists themselves? Even by your standards, this is dumb.

I really enjoyed this article by Kareem…read it if you're interested.

Great article. Who knew he could write like that? Loved this bit:

And now the poor guy’s girlfriend (undoubtedly ex-girlfriend now) is on tape cajoling him into revealing his racism. Man, what a winding road she led him down to get all of that out. She was like a sexy nanny playing “pin the fried chicken on the Sambo.” She blindfolded him and spun him around until he was just blathering all sorts of incoherent racist sound bites that had the news media peeing themselves with glee.

Yeah, who would have thought people posting on a Jazz board would follow the NBA?

It probably never made the news the owner of an NBA team was getting sued for racial discrimination. It also probably never made the news when his former GM sued him for wrongful termination because of age and race.

If you followed the NBA at all, and I'm going to go ahead and assume that the majority of people here do, then you knew Sterling was a racist. Don't act like you care now.

Another good bit. Anyone who hasn't read this piece yet should.

So, if we’re all going to be outraged, let’s be outraged that we weren’t more outraged when his racism was first evident. Let’s be outraged that private conversations between people in an intimate relationship are recorded and publicly played. Let’s be outraged that whoever did the betraying will probably get a book deal, a sitcom, trade recipes with Hoda and Kathie Lee, and soon appear on Celebrity Apprentice and Dancing with the Stars.

And poor Silver is caught between a rock and a hard place. Neither he nor the other owners have any authority to force Sterling to sell the team. Sterling is meeting the financial obligations; therefore the league cannot seize the Clippers. Most Silver can do is fine and suspend him ($1M limit IINM). And expect Sterling to sue in return.

Actually, on the radio yesterday they said that the owners can vote to force Sterling to sell. Not sure if it takes a unanimous vote, majority vote, 2/3 vote, or what, but apparently that's a real option.

And in my opinion it is insane. Guy has every right to be a racist POS if that is what he is. He has done things that are just idiotic and paid the price, like the 2.7 mil(?) settlement mentioned in here. But he has also done a lot of good like giving money to charities and outreach groups, like the NAACP.

Forcing him out of his chosen business because he holds some antiquated, and horribly wrong, ideas is just bad.
