Looking for genuine discourse re: Donald Sterling/NBA

Because the NAACP is awarding Sterling on behalf of ALL Black people? Yikes.

Sterling was a HUGE donor to the NAACP; he's effectively buying these awards for publicity. This reflects poorly on the NAACP, sure, but these awards are not voted on by ALL Black people.

How is this relevant? At all?

Also, like onebrow, what are these root causes?

72 percent of black mothers are unwed.

That is a MAJOR cause right there. Anyone want to discuss this or pull on that string, cause I'm pretty sure the juicebox brigade will label them as "racist."

How is the story with Donald Sterling anything other than a boss/manager/commissioner firing or terminating a relationship due to an unfit working relationship?

This is about the NBA's profit and making sure they still have a league in the future.

(delicate white or delicate latina girl).

She half black and half mexican doe so its probably hard for her to play the delicate white girl role

That may be true but it doesn't mean I have to agree with the NBA taking action against the ramblings of an old man within the confines of his whore's duplex. Nor does it mean SCOTUS would agree with you.

The conversation wasn't full and he didn't say anything racist on that recording anyway. All he was asking was for the bitch to play the role he was paying her for (delicate white or delicate latina girl). I think he'll be able to fight this and win in court on grounds of conspiracy or entrapment or some other big lawyer word.

I did read something about how there was precedent for judges throwing these cases out on grounds that there is no governing body over the NBA, and it was purely a contract that could be terminated at any time if the NBA deemed necessary. I don't know if that will be the case this time, but I am sure Sterling will sue the hell out of the league, as he started out as an attorney, and has a history of fighting legal battles and winning.

Also, did you guys know he changed his name as an adult from Donald Tokowitz to Donald Sterling to be more socially accepted by the public? Kinda odd sidenote.

Well, yeah. That's kind of the point of the organization. National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. They seem to have been handed that role by the political class and media as well. You got a problem there, it's not with me, its with them.

If you really think this story is about that, then why in the Hell wasn't something said for the past 20 years of Sterling's idiocy! If you can't see government involvement in this narrative, then I can't really help you. There are a LOT of people who want to change the subject and this is part of that. Now that the super top secret bylaws have been released we see that what Sterling done and the punishment are only not in the same ballpark, but not in the same universe. Contract law is pretty literal and doesn't do "penumbras." Normally the target would collapse and run away. But Sterling doesn't give two rips about his legacy or reputation. He will hire a nasty lawyer and sue the NBA. Discovery should be interesting.

No, that is a MAJOR effect and I've covered this several times elsewhere. I wouldn't accuse you of making this incorrect correlation = causation out of racism, but I know several people who do so (the majority of them).

So...The root cause of black mothers being unwed is unwed black mothers? What?

And again, what is the point of making that list? How is it relevant to this discussion?

What do you want a link about? Donald Sterling said he doesn't want black people at the games, his players and coaches threatened to walk. The NBA saw this as a huge problem. They got rid of Sterling. The NBA will now be more popular because of it. $$$

That's not true in the least. You should listen to the recording.

So do White Supremicist groups speak on behalf of all white people? I am sure there are literally millions of black people who would not want to give the NAACP award to Donald Sterling. The NAACP does not speak for all black people.

As far as being forced to sell the team goes, he may have a legal right to keep it, but that does not preclude all of his players from quitting on him, and other teams refusing to play a team owned by a racist. Doc Rivers has already said that he will walk away from the team if Sterling continues to own it, and the players have said so privately (Chris Paul said it publicly). The fact of the matter is that his team will likely lose a ton of value if he continues to own it, and it could even go belly up, and the league could contract to 29 teams in an extreme scenario. His best option is to cash out, and get a huge return on a team that he payed only 12.5 mil for, but is now worth an estimated 700 mil.
