Marc Stein: Jazz-Warriors discuss pre-Lottery trade (Source says trade "likely")

My understanding is if we don't get the pick this year or next year, then it becomes an automatic two second-rounders in '14 .. which is what I explained.

You are very close. This is what it is:

" top 7 protected in 2012 and 2013, top 6 protected in 2014. If not received by 2014, Jazz will instead receive Warriors' 2014 and 2016 second round picks"

The Jazz can get the lotto pick in 2014 as long as it is not top 6. If it is then we get two 2nd round picks from GS.

"Utah Jazz: Receives Golden State’s 2012 first-round pick (top-7 protected in 2012 and 2013, top-6 protected in 2014, else 2014 and 2016 second-round picks) via Utah (from the Marcus Williams trade on 9/29/09) from the Deron Williams trade on 2/23/11."

I guess I was a little late.

Yes.

We have 10+ pages of 99.9 percent nonsense. Guys who have no clue about anything arguing and arguing and making personal insults.

Sifting through 10+ pages of nonsense to read what's really going on and receive any insights into my Jazz team is ridiculous.

Come on folks, stop with the insulting and ridiculous trade talk and stick to the subject at hand.

Yes, yes and yes. It has gotten to a ridiculous level.

This is misleading. Even if we don't get the pick this year or next year, we still might get it the following year.
I doubt that the Warriors successfully tank 3 years in a row just to tank the Jazz out of one pick, although it is possible.
I would lean towards taking a shot at the 8 this year, knowing that the Jazz would likely eventually get a first rounder , unless they really want someone a lot at 35.

Any team with Mark Jackson as their coach has not only a possibility but the PROBABILITY of tanking. He's a terrible coach.

Also, why would a team with Bogut and Curry be better next year? Those two are more injury prone than Boozer or AK.

I think your chances of winning the lottery or being abducted by aliens is greater than Bogut and/or Curry being healthy for more than half of next season.

If we can get GS's pick THIS YEAR then I say DO IT. Trade then Al Jefferson (to someone... ANYONE)... Start Favors from day 1 next year. Have the Mailman work with Kanter all summer long. Burks and Hayward? Overtime with Hornacek. Draft Marshall or a wing that can knock down the 3. Devin Harris can either walk when his contract runs out or we can use him as trade bait.

I believe we would get GS's pick next year as the way things stand. I think odds are they finish above 7 and I doubt they try to tank again. They'll get away with this year, but doing the same thing would be a PR nightmare for them.

So unless we get something like an extra pick(i highly doubt it) then cash might end up being all it was worth.

This is a gamble. And I find it strange that Kevin would think about gambling on this.

In our minds, a lot of how this trade is seen will depend on whether not the 7th pick moved back or not. If it does, and all we got was some loosened protection provisions, its going to be a fan nightmare, and Ill be mad as hell. If it doesnt move back, then Kevin gambled and won, and got away with one.

Folks pls.

Huh?

Are you suggesting that Al Jefferson cannot or should not be traded? I'm a bit confused with your post.

I think we should try and prevent GS from getting this pick. Don't help them. Screw them. Get a pick THIS year.

BTW why is all of Utah's media MIA? I haven't seen mention of this anywhere in Utah.

You should start a thread on this subject. I will back you.

Side note: little bit ironic your post is OT.

I agree though. I just have the opnion I think Kevin gives the shaft to the fans, and people start insulting me.

Me and the thrilla in manilla stand together as one. A united front against nonsense.

I think you edited your post, but when I first read it I thought you were saying to trade Al for GS's pick right after you scolded all of us folks for posting ridiculous trades.

Carry on, folks.

Ok, just looked it up....

I was wrong, it's top 7 protected in 12, and 13. It's top 6 protected in 2014, if we still don't get the pick then it becomes a second round pick in 2014 and 2016. I need to stop reading Locke's tweets.

listening to Thrilling Gatino tell people to calm down and stick to the issue at hand is like Louis CK telling people he doesn't **********.

Easy. Burks and they get the pick this year. We get Thompson and no protection next year. They get a scorer and their pick, we get a shooter and a chance at a better pick next year. But mainly we get a shooter that can step in and get big minutes.

There's no chance they essentially trade Thompson for Burks.

I wouldn't think so, but trading the protection for a late pick who will turn into another Quincey Lewis, Scott Pagent, Koufos, Almond, etc is just dumb. I would rather save the $$$ for a FA who has proved something and take my chances with the lottery. If we do a trade with GS, we had better get something back that immediately helps.

That's my thinking if I am KOC. I'm not helping the team that lost on purpose to screw me over for a late round first or even worse, a second round pick.

Well if it could happen, all of us would be for it. However, there's just zero chance that GS is going to trade Thompson to us, especially after he had a killer 2nd half of the year. It's probably the most unrealistic trade posted in this thread, and that's saying a lot.

It's not as crazy as you think. Thompson avg 12 pts in 25 mins. Burks was 7 in 15 mins. Burke is more athletic and a better defender and ball handler. Thompson is a better shooter. Thompson is more polished offensively but Burks has a higher ceiling.

Anyways, this is all besides the point. The point is, trading for a late first round or second round pick is dumb. GS screwed Utah. We are going to help them for a pick that statistically won't be on the team in 3 years? No thanks. Like I said, I would rather have the cap space to sign a FA who has a proven skill set and the chance at #8.

This board completely over values draft picks, especially late first round and second round picks.
