I smoked pot on pretty much a daily basis when I was in high school and in my early twenties. One of my memories from when I first started was riding in a truck with a friend, both of us blazed out of our my minds, and he drove right through a stop sign at an intersection that we both passed on a daily basis. Pure luck that we didn't get in an accident, and I have no doubt that he did it because he was spacing out. Just because you don't read about it, doesn't mean that people haven't been killed and maimed because of drivers who were stoned. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that it's much harder for law inforcement to prove impairment in cases they believe involve marijuana. Yes, I believe that booze is MUCH more dangerous, but pot can also be impairing as well, although to a lesser degree. I believe the government has no place telling people they can't use weed recreationaly the same as alcohol, but the argument that weed has never caused an accident is ridiculous IMO.

maybe it was just you and your frineds lack of responsibilty. i never drove high or drunk. BUT i did Do a lot of stupid irresponsible stuff. especially when i was on a motor cycle. so it might not just be the weed.

but just being YOUNG and STUPID

Wholesale price in NW Washington is $250/oz. (albeit for good quality), even with medicinal laws AND BC minutes away.

edit: And that's straight from a grower/friend who I wasn't buying from nor selling for. $100/oz. in Utah just seems crazy.

Ya well, lots of Mormons up in Alberta, but plenty of cheap weed from west of the Alberta-BC border. Much more money to be made selling weed in the States. Hell, in parts of Quebec, you can find weed (outdoor grown) for as little as $100/oz. (with per pound prices even lower). I never succumbed to the temptation of buying in bulk and trucking it down to NYC. Some do, of course, and with the right contacts, make a bundle.

I live in LA. I'm used to paying retail. 60 per 1/8th with the all inclusive, not leave your couch service. So if I can't start that up in Western Canada, I'll just have to give up my dream of being a drug dealer.

Which is why the taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for other people's health insurance.

If they don't have health insurance, you still pay their medical bills. Hospitals don't turn people away just because they lack insurance.

Thank you captian obvious. I never said it was just the weed. I was responding to Salty's claim that weed doesn't impair your ability to drive. I think it was pretty clear in my post that we were young and stupid and being irresponsible. I understand that english isn't your first language, but if you don't fully understand something, it's probably better to just not post at all.

To me that issue is not about pot but about being a grown-up and doing what your employer requires you to do to get your paycheck. Every company has policies, it is simply a matter of maturity and personal responsibility to do and act as you are being paid to. Or if you refuse to then move on and find other employment. But just flouting the company's policies, especially policies that are in no way questionable, is immature and stupid. Since it is a requirement of the league to not smoke pot, then for hell's sake, grow up, grow a pair, and stop smoking pot. Or turn in the paycheck and go play in Amsterdam or wherever your pot use is fully acceptable.

lol, why are you waiting for me? I don't think there is any new or controversial info in this thread since I last posted, certainly nothing damaging to my belief that it doesn't really make driving anymore dangerous than plenty of legal things.

To clarify, I agree with Conan that kids shouldn't be doing it. My argument was never that it's okay and should be legal for kids to do it. So just in case that is why you were waiting for me, let me clear that up. I think it should be legal for adults, but kids are another matter.

So basically, what we have here is a bunch of government studies that are contradicting. Some actually say it doesn't impair the ability to drive.

We also have a few posters who decided to say something similar to:
"Well I once knew a guy who smoked a lot of weed back in the day. One time I saw him make a mistake while he was driving. The mistake didn't hurt anyone, and didn't cause an accident. It didn't get him a ticket, and didn't even get him pulled over. But I did see him make a mistake once. And while I can't be certain, I do suspect that marijuana contributed to his mistake."

If that is the best evidence that marijuana actually impairs driving, then I think my point is made. If it really impaired driving, there would be lots of evidence proving it. With as many people as there are smoking marijuana, and as many people that have either driven high or rode with someone who was high (even on this rather conservative board), there should be plenty of examples of someone getting hurt or hurting someone else.

The original debate started when someone said Viagra is legal and marijuana isn't because marijuana has the potential to injure or kill. When called on that claim, he said he was talking about driving.

So I am not sure why you are waiting on me. I said I don't think it makes driving dangerous. You responded to that by saying it was just as bad as alcohol. Your claim has been pretty much shot down by everyone at this point. are you waiting for me to say "I told you so" or something? lol

Well this all started from a thread about Marcus Camby smoking weed during the NBA lockout. So technically, Marcus Camby has no working agreement with his employer right now. Smoking weed may or may not be mentioned in the new CBA, and drug tests looking for marijuana use may or may not be allowed under the new CBA. But right now, there is no CBA so it's not a matter of him just doing what his employer wants.

As for marijuana's effect on driving? Lack of alertness, the ability to concentrate, coordination, and the ability to react quickly are all side effects of doping. Does that mean anyone that smokes is a liability? Not necessarily. But I think there's no question you drive worse on weed than not. Common sense even potheads can get.
