Mathews signs offer sheet w/Blazers (5 yrs/34 mil)

"The Jazz have handled the Wes Matthews situation exactly how they should have. He came in and asked for the full MLE, the Jazz didn't jump at it and immediately sign him to it. They let the market dicated his worth and now it has. So now they will match it and we will all move on."

Exactly. What was the worst that could have happened? Someone offers him the full MLE and they either match or don't or someone offers less and they have the right to either match that or not. Jazz in the end hold all the cards and weren't naive enough to believe that he wouldn't at least see what other teams would offer.

That's why it is a message board :). Besides, I am pretty sure anyone with an ounce of intelligence could do a better job than Memphis GM in something like Gasol trade.

The trade turned out to be okay for the Grizz...but sending him to the Lakers was idiotic.

Well your assumption was 100% not reasonable and made you look like a dumb ***. And it does not look like the Blazer's were dissuaded because he did get an offer. Also it would have been stupid for him to accept a lesser offer without finding out if he could get the MLE.

They did negotiate, and they couldn't agree. Now the ball is in the Jazz's court and they get to decide.

Why, did KOC offer 4 years 16 mil? Link?

Easy to find, since the Jazz front office is notorious for leaking their negotiations to the media.

It's as stupid as asking you for a link stating they DIDN'T offer 4 years, 16 mil.

It's downright dumb to think the Jazz would announce how they negotiated with Matthews.

You provide the link stating he did not. Your the one saying they should have. How the **** do you know they didn't? They talked and couldn't agree.

FWIW I would not have given Mathews 4 and 16 either. 4 and 12 max and 3 and 9 preferably. I said that before this came out and I stand by it. This is too much money for a backup level SG with very little upside.

I wouldn't call dumping Gasol and giving MAX to Gay okay. Idiotic is the right word though.

They got Gasol in that deal as well. It was a stupid deal at the time but they were not going to be good enough to retain Pau anyway. So they got Marc and some picks for him.

Borat, do you distort everything you read in such a way as to make it match your preconceptions?

I don't see Siler sayin this at all. What Siler said suggests that Matthews was asking for the MLE, which the Jazz could always match anyway, and therefore had absolutely no incentive to give it to him.

Whatever happens, Matthews should at least be satisified that he got his "market value," and was not conned by some front office sharpster.

Siler says they told him "to find <offer> from another team". That does not scream like they were negotiating.
