Mike Conley Contingency Plan

Doable if Conley wants 17M-ish there and wouldn't take it here. They might be worried about another small aging pg. I could see them having interest in either guy.
Think they'd have more interest in Conley. With their roster as constructed if Conley/Horford could stay healthy they could make a run in the East. And if they can't both will be on expiring deals that are moveable next off-season if they wanted to move on and pursue a big name FA.

Celtics get Conley and Favors

Jazz get Smart, Tristan Thompson and a few 2nd rounders

Thompson is an expiring which we then could try to flip with the 2nd rounders elsewhere.

I'd be happy with this. The only issue with Smart is that he is also on the last year of his deal so there's a decent chance he walks next year.

Which GM sees Favors as a positive asset?
He's not positive... its more about is he neutral or how negative is he. I would think he's somewhat negative... but then I remember FA opened last year and the Wiz signed Robin Lopez to 1 year 7M.

If he only had one year left I'd say he's neutral.

Which is why the 2nd rounders or maybe even a future first would be that much more important.

Don't we just have to be under $142M with what we're getting back? So if we moved guys like Thomas and Hughes we'd be at like $140M with Smart's contract coming back.

We have to be under 140.6M and we are sitting at 132.2M with 11 players. Trading Conley and getting back Smart doesn’t work.

This doesn’t work either unless Thompson goes to a third team in the same deal.
