The euros need a cheap labor class. So they welcome the Muslims. The Muslims, instead of assimilating into euro culture, prefer to wage a jihad against the immoral infidel euro culture.

Something has to give!

How can you assimilate if you're not being allowed to? It's like complaining that the damn blacks should've just assimilated into mainstream white American culture and all the racial problems in the USandA would've gone away.

In what way are they being prevented from assimilating? Honest question.

Huh? How are they being prevented from being assimilated? Demanding that Europe adopt strict fundamentalist Islam attitudes and laws isn't assimilating into European culture. I'm usually all about the lil guy. The minority. But For Muslims invading Europe for work and then demanding that Europeans adjust just isn't right.

I don't think Americans understand this. In general, the Hispanics coming in are catholic and that means basically they are chill with almost everybody. They don't necessarily demand that womens rights be changed according to their religion. They aren't trying to change American social laws. In Europe? Completely the opposite. The Muslims coming in are aggressive, demanding, and look at Christianity as a threat to their way of life.

Jim, if the Hispanics coming into the USA demanded that all American women wear veils, would you then blame the USA for not allowing them to assimilate?

Well, for one, citizenship laws. Until 2001, there was no dual citizenship in Sweden. Children are not automatically born citizens, either, which is stupid. Doesn't exactly encourage kids to identify with Sweden. This of course stems from the idea that originally, the immigrants were all supposed to be guest workers, who would turn 50, retire, and then return to whatever country they were born but haven't lived in for 2-3 decades.

Then there's the issue of what room is there for Islam within Swedish identity. One of the common threads you'll see in both media and public discourse in Sweden is that there is a Swedish/not-Swedish dichotomy which implies that there are real Swedes(white, Christian, largely Nordic ancestry) and the immigrants who live in Sweden but are not Swedes, even if they have been in the country for 2-3 generations. If you set up a paradigm whereas Islam and Swedishness are incompatible, what is the likelihood of any Muslim wanting to adopt any part of Swedish identity?

All European Muslims demand women wear veils? And that laws be changed to more Islamic ones?

In Dubai I remember there was a huge Indian population. They mostly did the menial labor around the city, including driving cabs. In order to have citizenship in the UAE you have to establish your lineage quite a ways back, from what one of the cab drivers told me. If you can't do that you aren't ever going to be a citizen. That said, most the Indians I talked to were very pro UAE. They really seemed like they were on board and felt like they shared the UAE identity. I didn't get into very many religious debates with the locals overseas, but I'm going to assume most the Indians were Hindus. I don't know if there was a lot of discrimination against them, but from my perspective they were absolutely viewed as the menial laborers. despite that fact they seemed more than content. Maybe that was just the one's I talked to, never talked to anyone on the garbage crew that would come and clean up the sandbox* every morning.

Man, posting those pictures I can smell the place, I can feel the cheap wood used for floor boards in the trailers sagging under my feat as I look at DVDs and cuban cigars.

Anyway, that's where carriers can pull in when they're having liberty in Dubai. It's a sectioned off, secure area with a bunch of crappy little shops in a big square and in the center a cabana type bar where they sell sailors beer to enjoy as in the second photo. If the ship has been at sea for a while they usually restrict the first night of liberty to the sandbox so sailors can get trashed and blow off some steam before mingling with the locals. In that pic it is definitely not first night in the sandbox action going on, that's pretty light traffic. About 4,000 sailors jammed in there getting trashed on a typical first night.

Sorry, got nostalgic and went a little off track.

hey, I have 3 muslim teammates on my soccer team - awesome people, not like some brainwashed islamists. They hang out with everybody at the pub after game and drink beer. That's what I call assimilation into western culture:).
