What's new

Nikola Mirotic

There has been zero report that Detroit is trying to cut salary. They want Mirotic and they are willing to sacrifice their 1st to do it which is more than we should give. This is the trade I anticipate.

Mirotic for Marjanovic (only $7 million for next year), Tolliver (expiring), and Detroit's 2018 1st.

What team comes out and says "we are trying to cut salary". Read the tea leaves... Signing Bradley next year may get pricey and doing so will put them close to the tax. Adding salary would exacerbate the problem. Add in that they have Harris and Tolliver as stretch bigs and Niko isn't a huge need.

The deal proposed could happen though... unlike the Rubio deal. I just think it would be unwise, but maybe they know Bradley wants to leave or they deal Harris with Niko on board.

Is he following Portland or Detroit newspapers doe?

I bet Favs sits tonight (has an ankle injury)... Niko sits with the flu... probably coincidence but I'm sure twitter will jump to conclusions.

In either case I think Por/Det will try and dump bad salary with a first, so the trade hinges on -Does Chicago change their request and take on salary to get the 1st or Do they accept something less than a first?

This sounds reasonable. If I were in Chicago's shoes, I think I'd be more willing to compromise on the salary taken back than the first (which would disadvantage the Jazz). What are they going to do umpteen millions under the cap next year? It doesn't make sense for them to chase a lot of FAs given their situation, after all.

Not quite. He has veto power because there is a team option next year on his contract. If Chicago picks up the option he loses the veto (which they can do, and then trade).

Which any team who wants Mirotic and is willing to give up an asset for him wants that second year. No team trading for him is just going for a salary dump. Chicago will take the best deal and add the second year to get rid of his veto.

Mirotic is not choosing where he goes, the veto power is meaningless.

Nah... Niko is worth it if he continues to do something resembling his hot streak. It is possible, but if he goes back to his average numbers he is a mild upgrade over Thabo/Jerebko stretch 4s.

Don't buy into the hot streak... it is reason for optimism but let's not go overboard.
Nah, someone posted the stats earlier. Even if he goes back to his average he is an equal shooter to the best stretch fours in the league (and even in the past when you include guys like memo) and a better rebounder than all except Love.
With our 1st rounder we hope to draft a good player that would fit with our roster and is needed. We hope. Mirotic is already that and is still young enough to fit our timeline. Plus he likes quin and would seems to want to play here from what i have been reading in this thread?
Get er done

We aren't trading a first for him... we may acquire a first with Favs, hood, or someone else that we would give to them.

They want a first... I want a Ferrari... we don't always get what we want.
If we trade a pick for him I would assume there would be a protection on it, hopefully similar to the okc pick we got for Kanter. I wouldn't mind that too much

I mean would you give up a 1st for dirk? Love? Memo? To play next to rudy?
I would.
