It's a great way to prevent the opponent from making a 3 and tying the game.
The goal is to continue to have more points than the opponent.
Its also a great way to lose the game by extending it out and giving yourself more opportunities to miss FTs. Jrue hit his, so it didn't backfire. There isn't any stats that backup fouling up 3 leading to better outcomes.

I think fouling up 3 with any more than a few seconds left is risky. If it’s under five though, and you’re not incompetent at rebounding, it’s probably better than playing D straight up.

That’s just a gut feeling though, I’m curious how often intentionally missed free throws are actually rebounded by the shooting team.

Ya it's always advantageous to get into a free throw shooting competition when you have a head start like the blazers did.
Also, you just make certain to inbound to your best free throw shooter.
Then the jazz are trying for a 3 so not necessarily inbounding to their best free throw shooter.

Blazers have all the advantages by playing the foul game.

NBA players are better today at shooting and making 3's than ever before.

Btw I bet there are stats that back up fouling when up 3 being the better decision. I have no idea how to look that up though.

Fouling while up 3 with a few seconds left when the opposing team has no timeouts is a no-brainer.

Seemed like Hardy played a bunch of weird lineups tonight. Wonder if he’s fishing for some more data or if he’s concerned about the bench +/-

What a disaster of 2nd and 3rd half's. Well, now we know Harkless needs more minutes and earlier in the game if the defense seems to be awful. That, if they want to win.

Didn't believe at all they come this close after how awfully easy they made it to Blazers so long
