Long time reader...first time poster... The game tonight really made me start to think about next year. Here's a list of to-do items.
1) Get the #1 pick in the draft
I don't care how this happens--whether it is a trade involving the 6th and 12th picks...or the 6th pick and Millsap...just make it happen. We need a PG and Kyrie Irving is the man for the job.
2) Re-Sign AK
Yeah--you probably think that I'm crazy...but this team needs a 3 and AK has stated that he wants to stay in Utah. So, re-sign him for 7-8 million per year and deal with the injuries.
3) Pick up the team option on CJ Miles
Somebody has to play when AK has back spasms. CJ is inching along...progress is progress no matter how slowly it occurs.
4) Trade Millsap/Harris/Okur (could make #1 come to pass)
I love 'Sap...he's a beast...but he isn't going to thrive next to Al Jefferson. The Jazz need to first get a PG, then get a defensive minded 5, and lastly focus on getting someone who can stroke the three. The Jazz need to plan on Jefferson/Favors down low. If each of these big guys can develop a consistent mid-range jumpshot...ala Karl Malone...then it could be deadly.
5) Groom Hayward to play the 2.
The kid can stroke the three--and I think that he could become a solid wing defender. He needs lots of time and attention during the off-season because he's going to be the starting 2.
Potential Starting Lineup
PG: Irving
SG: Hayward
SF: AK
PF: Favors
C: Jefferson
This lineup gives you someone who can hit the three (Hayward) two wing defenders(Hayward and AK) a presence down low (Favors and Jefferson) and a PG who has received praise for being a good defender/decision maker/jump shooter.
Backups
PG: Watson
SG: Miles
SF: Miles/Evans
PF: Jefferson/Evans
C: Okur/Favors/Tomic*/Fesenko*
*Who knows what will happen with these two...this position is stacked...too many bodies and not enough PT. I think that Fesenko could be a serviceable player if he just had more playing time.
