Official *FAVORS WATCH* thread

The worst thing about losing Favs isnt his contribition ar PF. That can be a wash with a better shooter. Its at the backup 5. There's a huge dropoff from Favs playing 15 mins at the 5 to Udoh, Bradley or whoever else they put there.

Well yeah he'd probably start at the 5 for half the teams in the league.

Which is why he probably goes elsewhere this summer. He can be a starter, and I can't believe I'm saying this, maybe even a borderline All Star in the East. If he went to Atlanta and averaged 15-11 and got his team to playoff discussions near the All Star break, he could maybe make it in that terrible Eastern Conference.

I think Atlanta goes full process and trades Shroeder and anything that isn't on a rookie deal that has value for future assets.

Favs has a few options... but I'm not sure how interested Atlanta will be. I think it is part of the reason they canned Bud... they don't want to win right now.

Edit: tried to add jack strop’s post about a backup C but couldn’t.

This really doesn’t get talked about enough. One huge reason this team struggled when it did when Gobert did was a lack of depth. Favors was a great backup, but HE had no backup. I have no idea why Udoh didn’t get more minutes in general. This, and backup for Rubio, must be addressed.

I guess they could, but they don't have any trade pieces that anybody really wants. Bazemore is an expiring chucker. Look around the league - who wants Schoeder? The PG market is becoming very saturated.

Favors would put people in the seats due to his Atlanta connection. He's not going to get them to the playoffs on his own. It's a savvy business move to add Favors. Collins and Prince are solid players Atlanta will not look to trade. If I'm Atlanta, I try to build something that makes sense around Collins, Prince, and their top 5 pick. More than likely, they are in the high lottery again next year. Favors just makes sense there without mortgaging the future.

Nothing puts butts in the seat in Atlanta.

Schroeder could go to Orlando, Phoenix, NY,... they don’t have to trade him.

I could see a Bazemore to Porty for turner and a pick... or something similar where it’s bad contract for his less bad contract. I think they use their space to take on bad deals and get draft assets. They have Prince and Collins both are decent prospects. This is year one of a three year tank job if they want to be relevant. They have no top tier prospects. I also think they end up drafting a big and you don’t want too many guys in between your young guys and playing time.

Ironically enough, look at this recent story: https://hoopshype.com/storyline/dennis-schroeder-trade/

If Atlanta trades Schroder and drafts somebody like Doncic or Trae Young, I could see Favors fitting there. They aren't that far from Eastern Conference relevance. And if you have two solid young pieces like Prince and Collins AND a high draft pick, why wouldn't you put a good lockerroom, affordable vet like Favors with them? He just helped in grooming Mitchell.

Agreed. If we lose Favors, we need a starting 4 AND backup 5. Bradley and Udoh don't inspire confidence and we'd have to hope like hell Crowder gets much more consistent - which I think he will, but that's besides the point. Even if he can't knock a three, Derrick still a luxury most teams would kill for. We'd miss his presence badly.

We were dynamite the second half of the season and only fell to Houston because we had no reliable backup for Ricky. At this point, I'd rather bring back Favors and Exum if we don't kill ourselves doing it, grab a cheap stretch 4 we can groom or to push Jae, and grab a reliable backup PG in case Exum decides to suck or gets injured again. I'd also rather keep Royce out of any trades if possible. He's got killer value for his contract.
