***Official Trade Royce O'neale for anything thread***

He's a premier defender at four positions and the worst thing he does with a possession is pass the ball which is basically exactly what we need.

He's might guard 4 positions but I 100% disagree he's a "premier" defender at 4 positions. You're acting like he's Draymond.

Also, I don't know why you'd think him passing the ball is exactly what we need. He shoots well enough that when he's open and passes it hurts the team, especially since our offense has been stagnant.

How many guys can you name in the NBA who's production on the court hasn't changed much although their minutes have doubled?

I mean, call me ignorant or what not. I just think a lot of people see more in Royce than there is.

He's a good 15 minute a night guy to me. However, with this roster, he's close to 30. We're not that deep.

Given what you could get back for Royce in a trade (very little because of his cheap contract) there is really only one reason you trade him - you are worried you won't be able to resign him next year and would rather get something now than lose him for nothing at the end of the year.

My expectation is the best you can get back for Royce is a future pick (late first round/early second?) or some scrub who is likely no better than he is. With the total lack of current production from our bench, aren't the Jazz better off keeping him and letting it play out in the offseason?

I definitely don't think the Jazz should trade him unless he's requested as part of a package deal because, like you said, his contract would allow us to trade him for peanuts.

I don't know how anyone could overstate how important Royce is to this team. He's a premier defender at 4 positions and the only thing he does to detriment winning is actually not shoot enough on a team that he understands has a bunch of star power looking for their stats. He and Joe are the pieces that make this rickety, top-heavy team work.

"Moderately functional defender at 3 positions" is a more accurate statement.

No it isn't. And asking him to guard the toughest assignment of those four positions while also putting up production in a lineup where everyone else is trying to get theirs are up in the night.

I wish he would shoot when he's open more often but targeting Royce as any significant part of our problem is completely missing what has been wrong with the Jazz.

Agree he is not a significant part of our problem. Do think he is overvalued by Jazz fans though.

I said, "an NBA playoff roster."

I mean, there's a reason he went undrafted. He's undersized and his production on the court has improved very little of the last three years even though his minutes have gone up to 28 from 16.

He's cheap. He's an decent defender and he shoots the three well when he actually shoots it. That said, I'm still surprised he's on an NBA roster.

I don't hate the guy and I hope he kills it. I'm just telling you what I've seen.

Oh Jesus, it’s the same ****ing thing. Does a playoff roster only carry 7 guys or something?

Yeah, apparently Royce is Draymond Green and is proving his by his production over a 3 year sample size of not improving. He's clearly an NBA starter and would be on most teams.

The Jazz are the best team in the NBA! Royce rules and if you say otherwise, you drool.

Mmmkay, guys.

LOL a decent defender. Ok.

Do you think he's an elite defender? Like, if he's a "premier" defender at four positions, he should easily make all NBA defensive first or second team, right? Apparently, it's Royce Kawhi Leonard around these, here parts.

Lol and you're throwing the term ignorant around.

He was pretty solid in 1 playoff series and ever since he's been crowned as elite which is laughable at best.

Royce was a great bargain and find by DL. Every team needs players that can contribute without the ball in their hands. Royce does that by spacing the floor and playing tenacious defense. We ask him to guard some pretty big forwards and he can't always handle it, but tries his best. That said, he will be looking for a big raise next year and some team will give it to him if he maintains 44% from 3. If some team offers him 12 million a year Royce will be moving on, the Jazz will simply plug Miye Oni into his role.
