Oni traded to Thunder

can we qualify for hardship exemption if we have roster spot available? if we are forced to sign guys to cover for a potential covid outbreak and their salary counts towards our LT cap, it makes this Oni move even dumber

I almost think there is a follow up deal here... but have been burned by that thinking before.

Couple of potential follow up deals.... there is a guy they want to sign for the rest of the year like Danuel House so save a little now while doing a 10 day dance and eventually sign the guy.

The other is a potential 1 for 2 deal so now you are back at 14 and remove the Oni waiver hit.

Finally - In the most unlikely of potential deals.... they have a guy with a medium salary like Garrett Temple, Torrey Craig, or David Nwaba that they are willing to take into their trade exception.... so adds a bunch of salary and Oni's hold was removed to clear a little budget for a bigger spend. Again.... super duper unlikely.

Well, if we were getting Kenrich Williams, he probably would have been included in a bigger deal...

I wouldn't be shocked if they brought back Exum, tbh.
No damn way. Exum is ded and even when he isn't ded he sux. Get someone new instead of a rerun.

I also think the NBA needs to do something about OKC owning every single draft pick in existence for the next 1000 years.

One team having that much draft assets cant be good for the league and how easily teams can get deals done.
OKC is maybe the most fascinating team to watch over the next few years precisely because of their fanatical accumulation of draft picks. So, I say let the experiment play out before arbitrarily eliminating the OKC strategy.

This does seem to give the Jazz more flexibility as they have two roster spots open. It allows them to trade someone like Bogey (20 mil) for (12 + 8) - if that deal is out there.

Guess what.... they could have done that already.... but this does open up the old 1 for 3 deal!

They already have a spot open and could have paid $1.1 M like the Lakers to clear that salary/roster spot instead of a 2nd round pick that is worth $2M+ in cash.
