Pelton and Ford Discuss Last Years Draft

OP can you expand on how Exum is put in a "small box" by Snyder? Quin has said he encourages Exum to be very aggressive.

That's one of the biggest misconceptions about Dante right now - that Quin is putting him in this role. No, it's not Quin! Quin has repeatedly stated that he wants him to be more aggressive, that he wants him to drive. It is not Quin! Right now, Dante is the one who's putting himself in the box of a catch-and-shoot one dimensional player.

I have not heard that from the coaching staff. I have heard them say they want him to play hard. I have heard and seen lots of quotes about them wanting to develop him slowly. Both Snyder and DL have made comments about taking their time and bringing him along slowly.

I dont think anyone knows what exactly the coaching staff wants from Snyder but it is clear they want him to do certain things on the court and do them well before worrying about other parts of his game. Snyder has done this with other players and will continue to do this. Maybe some of what his restrictions are self restrictions but not all of them.

Snyder said he wants him to come out of his shell and likes when he shows some emotion. He said he wants him to fight for the ball like its his last game. But I dont take that as he is not restricted as far as what the coaching staff wants him to do on the court.

Also DL has said multiple times that they are not sure which position Dante will play 1 or 2 and that playing/learning both is slowing his progression, but think that will help long term.

Stitches has only stated the obvious. People are just taking it personally.

I guess the best thing for now is to drop the subject. It's not like this discussion will have any bearing on how Exum turns out.

I guarantee you the "obvious" truth about Exum is not what he's saying. There's a lot of filling in of the gaps.

What of the things I've said about Exum specifically you disagree with? I'm stating what he is now(catch and shoot player who is one of the most passive rookies I've ever seen) and I really have no idea how anyone can dispute that. I am not saying he can't change that, I am not saying he can't turn up the aggression in the following seasons and turn into more of a threat in the paint and as a playmaker.

I think Dante is going about his game in a really shrewd manner. What I see is a green kid who has come into a gunfight with a knife and figures it's better to hide his knife than show it to everyone and get killed.

The gap-filling is happening with (a) the way you're interpreting what Snyder has said and (b) by equating all rookies (when Exum is obviously amongst the most raw of the raw). Statistics are going to make him look bad, so look with your eyes instead, where he looks okay relative to realistic expectations.

If he plays the 2 it will be a real disappointment. The reason he went #5 is the anticipation he could be a dominant player at PG. Throw him out there at SG and the size advantage disappears.

He screams PG to me. He has looked a lot like a spot up shooter recently, but we all saw the games in SL and preseason when he seemed much looser and had decent stretches of brilliance as a PG. Not sure why he camps out all the time now, but I am just going say coaches regardless of what the coaches are saying.
