Predict Gordon Hayward's contract structure thread

I think a lot of the Hayward fans take the approach that we should spend the money now and cross our fingers he someday evolves into something more than a above average role player. The Jazz took that approach with Favors, and we're still crossing our fingers.

He (Favors) got 7 minutes more per game than the prior year.

In those 7 minutes he did the following.

3 more shot attempts
4% better shooting
1.6 more rebounds
slightly more in the assist/steal/tov
slightly less in blk
exactly the same in pf, which is an improvement
4 pts per game
3 more words per game in huddles
1 additional show of emotion (full smile, not half)
And most of the time our defense was better with him in, it went up from the worst ever to the worst in the league or something like that

He's moving in the right direction.
Is it large enough or fast enough? It never is, right. We are demanding fans.

Hayward did this with his additional 7 mpg.

3 more shots per game
11% less on 3pts
1 more ft attempt
2 more rebounds
2 more assista
1/2 steal
1 tov
2 more pts

Statistically he was better in many ways, but sucking from 3pt land hurt him big time.

He has been in the 40% range in the past, I think he can do it again, which is why I'm not too stressed about it if we overpay a bit for him as long as it's front loaded.

I apologize for sounding too critical of Favors. I do acknowledge that he has made improvements albeit not at a "breakout" level. That's fine. I can deal with Favors slower growth pace because he has tools that cannot be taught (size, length, athleticism, and a good attitude/work ethic). Big men with these attributes are not a dime a dozen, so it was a good risk to pay Favors the money he got. I agree Favors is moving in the right direction.

As the season has been over a few weeks I've been thinking the Jazz's best route is to trade the youth for known quality players. The Jazz haven't had a good history with developing anyone to star level minus Deron.
Hayward is a perfect piece to trade with a pick to get a "real" quality player. I get that if the Jazz re-sign Gordon it'll have to be several months till they can feasibly trade him. Unless they can arrange a sign and trade. As long as the Jazz don't end up with a top 3 pick i'm actually ok with trading it.

Let me see .....

CJ miles got 4 years @ 4million per, adjusted for inflation ....

4 years @ 6 million per seems about right.

We could trade them for those real good star players like Millsap and Jefferson.

DeRozan, All star and 22pts, 4reb, 4ast per game...9.5mil a year. Why on Earth Hayward should get more?
Here is my contract structure for him
1 year 9mil
2 year 9.5mil
3 year 9.5mil
4year 10 mil.
Take it or go the edited away.

Honestly those quality of players is not good enough. Look at what the Celtics did a few years ago when they got Garnett and Ray Allen. They traded young assets to get stars. I'd like to see the Jazz explore that avenue.

Jazz would be morons to match it if he gets something like that from other team.

I keep seeing your name and avatar as you talk about bad contracts and it makes it difficult to take you seriously.
fyi

I'm working on overcoming the negative stigma associated with your name and pic. Be patient with me but if I burst out into uncontrollable lulz, that is why.

Did Derozan get numbers anywhere close to that before they signed his contract?

Do my eyes deceive me, did he shoot .096 from 3 one year. He must not have shot that many to still have a decent fg%.

So derozan is a horrible three point shooter, inefficient scorer and subpar passer?

Did Derozan get numbers anywhere close to that before they signed his contract?

No, and that's why he got only 9.5 mil a year. At that time most considered it as a stretch but now it looks like bargain. Basically Raptors bet on his ridiculous work ethic and talent hoping that he will get where he is now. Jazz on the other hand have very little room for hope that Hayward will be any better than what he is right now. He had full season to show that he can be alpha man and he failed. So why overpay for role player?
I like Hayward for 10mil a year at best. Anything more and I would rather see him leave.

I remember there was HUGE backlash when they extended DeRozan for 40 million dollars. Raptors fans hated the contract.

He's definitely had a mid-career renaissance, very very few expected him to have the season that he did.

Regardless, AKMVPs post is disingenuous, and incorrect. If DeRozan had this season right before his contract was due to be extended, it is quite obvious that he would fetch WAY more value than 10per. Get real.

.

Where did I say that AK's contract was good for the Jazz? It was overpaying but what other chance Jazz had at that time? To let their only All star and leading NBA shot blocker leave to other team? Jazz fans would have crucified KOC had he not kept AK in 2004.
