Predict the Rudy Gobert trade

I don't agree that Rudy couldn't win a championship. If he played for Golden State or Boston that team would have the clear advantage to win it all.

Now practically, and maybe this is what you were referring to, it will be difficult to surround him with that type of talent when he eats up as much cap as he does.
The nba is evolving a bunch right now. Teams that are more well rounded and flexible are going to be winning titles a lot more than just the super duper stars imo. It would be tough to get the right pieces around Rudy but I don’t think it’s impossible. He will be a huge piece in some matchups and a little less important in others.

I find it interesting Williams has had so much success in the playoffs and Boston is essentially dropping the big as their base defense… though Williams has come up higher at times. Putting some good two way wings around Rudy would be something I’d want to see. It’d also be interesting to see him on GS since they have no rolling bigs.

They have tanked multiple times during this title run... they whiffed on Wiseman but still.

Let's be clear... every NBA title building strategy will fail more often than not. The thing that gives the most success has been drafting high and hitting on one of those picks. Every now and again you will have a Detroit, Dallas (Dirk was picked high but still), Milwaukee... but most of the titles will be won the way SA, LA, Miami, Boston, Cleveland, GS did... draft high... get lucky or be a glamour market and assemble a super team. We only have one of those routes available.
Stockton and Malone were 16, and 13 in consecutive years. Probably the biggest two year hit in pro sports history.

Maybe we could get a two way wing for Donovan plus a decent draft pick to pick up another? If the cap jumps at some point you can add some more talent around Rudy and his contract won't be so prohibitive, assuming he can stay relatively productive by then. It wouldn't be the worse strategy in the world.

I really think the fact that the Bulls want Lavine to re-sign in free agency will keep them engaged in trade discussions for Gobert. There isn't a better move they could make that could get them in the top 4 of the EC.

It sounds like Atlanta wants a lottery pick and is shopping Collins for that. My guess is he goes to Portland.

I don't understand the John Collins hate. The guy is going to be a viable option for the next ten years. He's athletic, but he doesn't just rely on athleticism. He can rebound, score, shoot, etc.

I've already done a breakdown of Collins vs Horford and it's almost identical. I know that Horford is the better defender, but Collins is clearly the better offensive player.

If Portland gets Collins for #7, that's a steal. It's highly unlikely that #7 will be a guy who averages 16+ppg and 8+rpg through the first 5 years of his career.
