Real GM- The Accelerated Rebuild

I think the point was that we need a dominant wing player in order to contend. I agree.

Why can't we win with two good wings a dominant big, two other good bigs and a good point? Why does it have to be a stud wing? There's more than one way to win it all.

Doesn't have to be elite either. Terry isn't elite, he isn't even an All-Star. I think you just have to have a big time perimeter player, meaning someone who can hit big shots/is clutch. Hayward was that guy at Butler, he may eventually be able to become that for Utah.

Right now, Favors and Burks are really the upside of this team, although Kanter could have some nights where he just steamrolls some other teams' frontcourt.

If the Jazz could have come away with Derrick Williams and Donatas Montiejunas in that draft, they'd be on track to be contenders within a few years.

I would say the main upside of the team is the tandem of Favors and Kanter developing. With the West getting smaller, we could be in a good position to dominate like the Lakers did with Gasol/Bynum.

Who is going to be the Kevin Durant of this group?

Alec Burks or maybe it is a combination of Burks and Hayward that give the Jazz the one-two offensive punch on the wings.
Maybe that player comes in next year's draft, as that one has 8-10 guys who could be All Stars and the Jazz may again have 2 lottery picks, its own and the NJ/GSW pick

When the Lakers won the first three championships with kobe and shaq, shaq was the dominate big and kobe was just the complimentary wing! I don't think kobe became a dominate wing until gasol came over! If favours can be our dominate big and hayward or burks be the complimentary wing this is when I believe we will be a full fledge contender!

Good to see you've warmed up to the idea of having the Kanter & Favors tandem.

I've certainly warmed up to the idea of a Hayward/Burks back court, provided Hayward can bulk up a bit during the off season.

I really like the sound of this:

Favors, a 6’10 250 athlete who can protect the rim and defend 4’s and 5’s, will handle the interior defense; Kanter, a 6’11 260 low-post scorer who can also step out and knock down 18-foot jumpers, will handle the front-court scoring. On the perimeter, Gordon Hayward, a 6’9 shooter, will create driving lanes for Alec Burks, a 6’6 slasher.

Good combination of Power & Finesse, Offense & Defense, Shooting & slashing (Hayward+Kanter & Favors+Burks).

Contrary to popular belief, I don't think we need to get another PG in next year's draft. I just think we need an experienced hand, a cool head at the point. May be a Fisher/Watson type player who could control the tempo of the game.

Mo Williams?

In the case of the Mavericks, for all intents and purposes, Nowitski is a perimeter player offensively.

Again it doesn't have to be a wing, but you can shut down a player that has to work inside and doesn't excel at ballhandling. Stopping a guy that can hurt you anywhere and can handle the ball is really not possible if they get it going though.

Jose Calderon. But you'd better be sure to have especially good D too since he's going to become a real problem on the defensive end as he ages.

Nooo... definitely not.

You know what I mean - a pass first veteran who can hit the occasional 3pt.

Perhaps, but if we're relying on two other guys to do more of the distributing then a PG that can hit threes and score a bit would be nice. A reason I liked Jimmer (low maintenance).
