Rebounding

I'm stunned Johnh hasn't made his return for this thread.

I'm not as concerned about the rebounding woes. Rebounding isn't defense, but it's very much affected by our defense. Rotations and switches aren't tight right now, guys aren't committing to double teams, and as a result players get lost in space a little bit. When that happens, you don't see the box outs. I'm not excusing the wings, but Al and Sap just aren't in sync with how to defend together yet. They'll get there, the rebounding will naturally improve, but it won't be pretty to watch.
 
All the clowns acting like Boozer's rebounding is missed you have a very short memory. I would much rather have shots contested and us miss an offensive rebound then watch guards shoot layups all night while Boozer goes for the rebound. At least teams are missing shots vrs us. Also keep in mind how many times you watched Boozers man get a follow up dunk due to him going solo for a rebound and not boxing out his man.
I personally think the rebounding will come but right now I am just happy we are playing defense and making players miss.

I would like to clarify.
Defensive Rebounding is Defense!
Offensive Rebounding is Offense!

Just sayin.
 
This isn't a criticism as much as it is an observation based on his statistics, but I think of all our players, AK, given his height and athleticism, could improve the most in the rebounding department. Right now, he's averaging just 4.9 rebounds per night in almost 35 minutes per. Of everyone, he could improve a ton here, even if he's out on the perimeter a good amount. Sure, Jefferson and Sap could do better based on boxing out and such but I see Jefferson's limited athleticism and Millsap's height always being a handcuff to a degree. There is no reason AK though can't grab 6-6.5 rebounds a night.

I agree, and disagree at the same time. Yes AK should be grabbing more boards as he has proved from time to time he is capable of. I don't think athleticism has anything to do with Jefferson not boarding, or Millsap's height being an issue. Kevin Love is leading the league in rebounding this year so far. He is not athletic... and there is no way he is 6-10 even if thats what they list him as. Its about heart....... say it with me

I read a study once that showed that weight, not height, correlated best with rebounding success. That probably explains the rebounding prowess of guys like Love, who's somewhat short for his position but stocky, and DeJuan Blair.
 
Jazz got 30 defensive rebounds. Sacramento got 16 offensive rebounds. That's a 65% defensive rebounding rate. Status quo. Actually, it's a bit worse.
 
Hmmm despite that pounding of a game we still got handily beat on the boards? It's a miracle we have a winning record this year let alone something as awesome as 10-5

I also have thought this but then also realized it does depend on the team and what role AK playing. For example against OKC he is glued to Durrant so understandably his rebounds may not be as high but last night he was in more help mode and in the 1st Qtr I thought he rebounded pretty well. That is just a small and extremely different 2 game example obviously every team can be a bit different.
 
AK is playing a lot more 4 this year than in year's past. He should be getting more rebounds than he has in the past but he isn't. We don't have a Millsap off the bench, so that could account for a large chunk of the problem.

Perhaps. Millsap has a better defensive rebounding percentage than last year, where he had the worst defensive rebounding rate of his career. His 18.9% last year is trumped by Elson's 20.7%, which is right around where Millsap is every other year.

Fesenko has a paltry 13.5% defensive rebounding rate, which is horrible, and has regressed rebounding the ball every year he's been in the league.

Kirilenko is at the worst rate of his career as well. I thought he had been rebounding better.

Jefferson is way behind his career totals in defensive rebounding rate, this year being near Millsap's percentages, at 20.6 (Millsap is 20.3). His normal rate (other than his rookie year) is around 24.5 percent. Where this is problematic is Jefferson's rate replaces Boozer's rate, which was an outstanding 29.9% last year. Attribute it to whatever, but that's the biggest issue, Jefferson is basically getting one less rebound per ten missed shots the defense takes, which adds up.

A quick look at Memo shows an average around 20%. That's right around Elson's rate. He won't help the rebounding woes unless he has a career year rebounding the ball. It's a possibility, though, since Boozer won't be there giving him more opportunities to get the ball.
 
Yikes Deron lead our team in rebounds yesterday with 5! Al Jeff with 4 and Sap with 2! Awesome we're still winning these games, but this issue has got to be resolved!
