Wait, Santa isn't real? What in the holy ****!?!? Why was I not informed?!?!?!

Edit: and to be fair the vast majority of historical scholars accept that Jesus was really a historical figure. The debate is around the depiction in the Gospels, not in his existence.

Oh i believe he existed. As in past tense. He no longer exists though. Religion certainly does. In fact many religions exist that dont focus on jesus and focus on things like many armed elephants or something.

The point being that things can exist even when the central figure of the thing doesnt. That is if Al’s claim that Q isnt a real person is even true in the first place.
Either way, Qanon does in fact exist. Saying it doesnt is like saying christianity or Christmas doesnt exist.

LOL. You Q-Crazies think Q is behind everything. Now you think Q is "related" to five family members appearing in a campaign advertisement to endorse their brother's opponent? There is no Q. He or they aren't real. He or they were made up for an 8-chan marketing campaign. Now that 8-chan is defunct, maybe you should switch to a different fictional character from a still active enterprise. Maybe the five family members were convinced to film the advertisement by Flo from Progressive or Chester Cheetah. That blob thing from the Mucinex commercials looks pretty sketchy, maybe it is behind everything!

It’s always interesting, at any time, to better understand movements such as QAnon. They have real world effects, and since such trends are often the domain of seriously disaffected people, when you see a manifestation of the same conspiracy set elsewhere, it better illustrates that this is not solely an American phenomenon, and one may be witnessing a broader movement, on the world stage, apart from its birth in the discord that is the United States. Irrational movements are fascinating in their own right. But I’m interested in better understanding the times in which we live, and the emerging strength of right wing movements overall, on the world scene, and seeing a QAnon laced component serves as a clue of sorts to better understanding these times. Hence I find this irrational conspiracy underpinning illustrative of something affecting the historical stream in this moment. And that’s very interesting. Now shoo, go troll someone else. You’re not to be taken seriously.

“Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.”
- Voltaire

One of the goals of RW propaganda as Roger Ailes explained it after Nixon stepped down, was to help groom a large segment of the population into rejecting mainstream media, culture, and values to insulate RW politicians from accountability. This has proven to be successful. Today, the RW has created such a ridiculous fantasy for its addicts, that a large segment of the population believes in anti vax garbage, Qanon, and The Big Lie. This helps them to now commit atrocities, like refusing to get vaccinated (while engaging in harmful behaviors like consuming horse dewormer) or Jan 6, while eroding trust in our elections and democratic institutions.

If you can’t believe or trust in the mainstream, you can only believe in daddy strongman who feeds me the hate, paranoia, and racism that RWers crave! For folks who vote for Lake, Trump, Walker, etc, I don’t think there’s a way out of this hole. Sane, well informed, and virtuous people must outvote and out organize the dark forces of illiberalism that have bought into the RW fantasy bubble.

Where some would see the work of the Lord Jesus Christ or Allah, you see QAnon. There are things you don't know and so you fill in the gaps with your preferred gap filler. Personally I think it is more likely those five siblings didn't like the politics of their brother and the political campaign of their brother's rival viewed that as an opportunity to produce what is likely a highly effective campaign advertisement. I understand you see divine intervention, blessed be QAnon's name, to bestow this magical work.

I'm not one to argue faith with a true believer but maybe if you removed some of the mirrors in your house you'd see less of those, as you call them, "seriously disaffected people".

Example… 26,495,810 of Republicans embracing fascism. Doesn’t seem like Glenn Ellmers is happy after these midterms:

Last year this very same author wrote this, it’s essentially a story of the “Author’s Struggle”:

We don’t want to have a platform where we promise to use government power to help people and thus people refusing to vote for us means democracy is a failure.

David Frum, former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, wrote in 2018, “If conservatives become convinced that they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy.”

Wow. And I mean WOW.

I don’t know what’s wrong with you, but my earlier reply was to let you know that I enjoy learning. It’s my personal spice of life. I want to understand better the streams feeding into our present historical moment. Here, in my own nation, and in the world at large. It’s all about education to me. It’s a tad idealistic, I know, but that’s me. That’s what makes me tick. Learning. I think there is something wrong with you, if you can derive those words I quoted, and everything else you “communicated” in the full reply, from what I was trying to convey to you. Absolutely nothing you have said in your reply bears any relation to what I hoped to convey. And clearly convey, which I believe I achieved. Read my lips: I ENJOY LEARNING. And I am interested in some of the irrational beliefs feeding into our present moment. That’s it. That is one of my interests at this moment in time. Among many things. It’s clear you just don’t get it. You continue to troll, and you are wasting my time.

Nope. Just trying to learn, as always….

So there you have it. A few articles and a video. It’s a start. It was already well known that the QAnon conspiracy had spread to Europe. So, I am interested in both the roots, and the wide appeal, and the future, of this particular upwelling of irrationality in the Western psyche. That’s why I posted the articles that so upset you. Seems to me understanding the causes always helps in developing potential solutions. Seems to me it’s you filling in the gaps of what you believe concerning me.

One of the reasons why lazy, low character, and/or mindlessly partisan posters like Al say these things is because it’s easier to believe that they’re engaged in a war not between ideas and policies but between good and evil. It enables crappy politicians, like Trump, complete freedom to do whatever they want. They don’t have to be bound by party platforms, principles, or ideas. He doesn’t have to actually offer his supporters anything or work to improve their lives. He just needs to spout off about nonsense like Qanon and his drooling zombie like followers will mindlessly applaud and follow.

It gives people like Al and his friends at Jan 6 complete license to commit whatever crimes they want. They don’t have to believe in election outcomes, because they are in a jihad. Laws no longer bind them because they’re in a struggle between good and evil! When politics supplant your religion, bad things always happen. The similarities between what Qanon followers believe and what Al Qaeda and the Taliban believe are similar. There’s nuances obviously between these terrorist groups, but they all believe that they are entitled to commit whatever atrocities they want because they’re fighting the forces of evil.

Dangerous stuff.

I called it months and months ago that he was a troll.
