Reputation Comments, positive and negative

Ok.

Now you'll note default didn't say exactly what shocking material he was subjected to, just that "unsuspecting parents" are subjected to "awkward situations" with their children. This was in the middle of a paragraph complaining about how homosexuals organize to get group discounts at Disneyland and about how "certain things" should not be out in public.

Your post is about a specific couple behaving in appropriately and you're not extrapolating about the entire behavior of heterosexuals at Disneyland. Nor are you describing heterosexuals as spreading out all over Disneyland "en masse."

I stand by my rep comment and feel no need to retract it.

I have some empathy for Default's experience. I took my kids to Washington DC about 15 years ago when they were in kdgarten, 3rd and 5th grades. It was the last time the Aids Quilt was to be on display in one piece on the mall, so there were a very large number of homosexual couples in town at that time. There were several incidents on the Metro when we sat behind two guys or two women getting very affectionate and intimate and it was uncomfortable.

Those intimate PDA's would have been uncomfortable had they been between heterosexual couples, but I'll admit it seemed creepier to me at the time to witness that type of homosexual affection up close and personal. And I'm also pretty confident that the inappropriate behavior we witnessed would not have taken place had it been a more diverse crowd, rather than one that one almost exclusively homosexual.

just my two cents...

ok, now I'll cry harder...

yeah, now picture it about 45 years later.

that ought to cool your jets

Aw, when you run with teens/preteens like LG was, those testosterone fumes you inhale will affect your own judgment, apparently. Give'im a break, guys. I agree, the calculation of how a chick is gonna look in 45 years is a good antidote for testosterone fumes.

Translation: I too have empathy with being a little creeped out by homosexuals.

The system is an unAmerican commie system making you spread your rep wealth around willy nilly.

I've been tattled on for printing up socialist-type phony rep currency and spending it like congress.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Millsapa again.

I have to admit, it makes me feel grand. In my imagination, some people like cheap pos rep.

That's how societies form common ideas of what's "acceptable": person by person, case by case. . . . . the things that just don't "creep out" others will rise to the top of the public consensus.

wrong, kicky, completely wrong.

if you're going to tar and feather me, please do it right.

I was a homophobe to a degree. Plain and simple. I can admit that. Maybe I still am in some ways, though my attitude has changed and I am more comfortable witnessing certain behaviors that made me feel quite uncomfortable 15 years ago.

The fact that it was between homosexual couples was part of it, and I think I said it would have still bothered me and seemed equally inappropriate had they been heterosexual. The other part was that I had my young children with me. I'm not sure how much time you've spent with young children, but things that you can easily ignore if you're alone are not necessarily so easy to ignore when you've got little kids poking you and stuff.

Not that this is going to make any difference to you, but this was on a train, not some place where we had the option of moving to another area. The same type of PDA behavior taking place out on the Mall was not an issue because I didn't feel as though I was a captive audience.

Kicky, saying that someone who is uncomfortable with homosexual PDAs is a homophobe is like saying someone who doesn't like loud rap music coming from someone else's car is a racist. It's pretty weak.

As someone else said to you recently, those kinds of accusations are pretty heavy and should probably not be thrown around so lightly. Just my opinion.

"fyi I'm not the first or last poster to respond to &%$#&&#%. Nothing personal."

Reciprocated neg. rep from vslice Moreschi. Grow a pair, Sporus.

I think you missed the important part: the specific comparative statement was made that she was MORE uncomfortable because they were homosexual than she would have been if they were heterosexual. Well, technically she used the word "creepier" but that doesn't make it better.

I haven't used it inappropriately yet. Sorry dude I regard these pro-forma "I wouldn't like it if I saw heterosexuals doing this but" statements right before complaining specifically about gay people as the equivalent of saying "I'm not racist but" and then saying something racist. If you're uncomfortable being called out on it because that's "heavy" then the solution is don't do it.

Here's the reality: I'll leave the rep comments I want as I see fit and default can leave the rep comments he wants as he sees fit.
