For hell sakes, why must Eaton's contribution be destroyed for the sake of proving Rudy's greatness? You even have some questioning the validity of Eaton's number being retired.

Framer, don't bother with this thread anymore. Too many Jazz posters have missed the entire point of what you were doing. It's too bad, because it was a fun read until it became a Rudy vs Eaton debate.

All of that ignores the different era's of basketball. I'm with the Rudy supporters I think he's better. But those stats don't necessarily compensate for the different rules and styles of play back then.

Rudy would have been even better back then and Eaton would have been trash in this era. If Rudy played in the 80's the history books probably speak of him in a GOAT light.

In a more physical league Rudy would have been beat up. Bigger guys that used their bodies to bully people would have worn him down. He struggles against guys Like Adams with OKC. Back then a lot of teams had guys bigger stronger and better than Adams. Adams was an average size and physical type center in that era. Rudy struggles against him because of the physicality and he'd have a match up like that most nights when Eaton played.

Rudy had a stretch last year where he was dominating pretty much all of the best centers in the league, including cousins, who is a bruiser. Rudy has down games just like anybody else, but nobody muscles him on a regular basis. That hasn't been true for a couple years now.

I think Rudy has struggled at times coming back from injury when he wasn't yet 100% healthy, and some fans revert back to thinking he's getting bullied by tougher centers. There's nobody in the league who gets the best of a healthy Gobert on a regular basis.

Rudy would kick everyone's ***. Sure, guys were a bit more physical, but they also sucked a lot more *** and were much less athletic. Gobert struggles against Adams relative to everyone else, but he still plays great against him.

That entire discussion is stupid. Eaton was an OG Utah Jazz dawg.

Gobert would have been Eaton alive by his competition. Could you imagine Gobert trying to guard Shaq? LOL. I'd take Ostertag over Gobert in that situation every time. Eaton would have made Shaq his bitch.

The problem with that comment is that you don't have a clue how the different eras would change the production. I have a pretty good idea how you think it might change, but the reality is neither you or i have the slightest idea. So we're left with the facts, with reality, with what really happened. We can speculate till we're blue in the face. We can speculate until the narrative fits our view. But that is all it is- a guessing game.

I could make the easy argument that it was a lot easier for Eaton to get blocks back then- but i don't know that- all i know is that the facts show that at his peak Eaton was the superior shot blocker. So I'll give him that.

At the same time the facts show that Rudy is better in pretty much every aspect of the game.

^my father used to always say Eaton's problem was that he had tennis ball rackets for hands. We see the same with Favors and Gobert (improving a ton), but the league adjustments haven't changed who Eaton could have been in this league.
