Majority rule would imply we live in a democracy, which we do not. We live in a democratic republic. We don't even elect the president by the majority. More than one president has lost the popular vote (or the majority vote) and still been elected president.
I'm not sure whether you are elaborating on my post or you thought I was arguing that we do live in a democracy. I no longer try to make the argument to people that we don't live in a democracy and in fact live in a constitutional republic, because they tend to get all glossy eyed.(democratic republic is a redundant term imo) I find it makes more sense to talk about the how and why rather than trying to override a lifetime of being told that we live in a democracy.
Majority rule does manifest itself to some degree in our system. Ballot initiatives are the most apt example.
