Satanic monument

*rolling eyes* at you robots.. and I am not trolling either. Dead fn srs.

I'm dead srs as well. Majority rule is about as scary a concept as can be imagined imo. We have decided to live in a nation of laws with a limited government. We as a people decided that (below) was a good idea.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

WILL THIS WAR ON CHRISTMAS EVER END???? How many more have to DIE before we can force our consumerist, white Jesus upon everyone. WHEN WILL THE CHRISTIANS BE FREE IN AMERICA. Like the founders intended!!

btw, does anyone know anything about furries?

First I heard of 'em myself...

I guess the saddest part is that neither the Christian nor the Satanist parties seem to actually be interested in honoring their respective beliefs with these monuments. It's become flexing or a pissing contest. Or a piss flexing contest.

The satanic ones are honoring their beliefs. They believe that if they are offended they should be cruel to the offender and destroy him.

We have a constitution that limits "majority rule" for good reason. If the majority ruled you would not have what you have today pkm. The second you had earned anything it would have been voted away from you, I would have died in a reform camp years ago, and pot would be legal(nothing is all bad).

Majority rule would imply we live in a democracy, which we do not. We live in a democratic republic. We don't even elect the president by the majority. More than one president has lost the popular vote (or the majority vote) and still been elected president.

I don't know much about satanism. But pushing too hard to have a satanist statue outside a court house is way out of concept no matter how much u dramaticize it .

So, you're ignorant of the topic, but you're comfortable that your ignorance puts you in a good place to judge it's worth?

- what is wrong with basing faith-based principals?

Nothing, as long as it's done by private individuals. The country was founded based on Enlightenment principles.

- the vast MAJORITY of this country would rather have a God monument than a devil monument, fact. (we vote a mayor, a President, etc.. so what's wrong with majority rule in this instance?

It's anti-American.

- It would be different if sincere... this stunt is anything but.

Please provide any reason to think this is true.

- This is all fun and games till somebody loses a soul

I'm much more worries about losing skin cells. They are real.

I'm not sure whether you are elaborating on my post or you thought I was arguing that we do live in a democracy. I no longer try to make the argument to people that we don't live in a democracy and in fact live in a constitutional republic, because they tend to get all glossy eyed.(democratic republic is a redundant term imo) I find it makes more sense to talk about the how and why rather than trying to override a lifetime of being told that we live in a democracy.

Majority rule does manifest itself to some degree in our system. Ballot initiatives are the most apt example.

We do live in something closer to democracy (everyone votes) than a republic (voting only by a select group or within limits). We were founded as a republic, but we expanded the franchise.

Definition of republic
re·pub·lic
riˈpəblik/
noun
noun: republic; plural noun: republics

1.
a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch.

If we use your qualifier(voting only by a select group or within limits)it is still a republic. Aliens and felons do not have the right to vote.

We live in a constitutional republic.

The US is actually a Republic. It is governed by rule of law. The elected is supposed to be bound by oath to the written governing limits (ie constitution) yet vote "together" and create laws to address concerns of the represented in a democratic way

Non-citizens can't vote in democracies, either. Every democracy has restrictions on the franchise, such as age limits; lack of a criminal conviction is the removal of a right to vote, not a failure to grant it.

Besides, there is nothing in US law that prevents felons (former or current) from voting, and this changes from state to state.
