Shams said 5 years $200M, so he's including this season. His maximum number this year would be $42.2....maybe the full maximum the following 4 years but it seems as though the reporting is pegging him at something less. It would be really great for the Jazz to get Lauri on some kind of flat or descending deal and like you said, it's better for Lauri as well to get as much as possible upfront.

As much as I love Lauri, I'm not sure he's a no brainer 30%+ full max kind of player. I feel like that may be reserved to truly elite superstar players in this new CBA. It's fine if he's 30% now, but it be amazing if it trickles down to 20% as the years go on.
 
It starts to sound I was right when I long time ago told here how Lauri might not go hard for the absolute max deal, as a family man. His kids are in school age and he wants to win on Jazz with his special bond with the coach too... so makes much sense if he's ok with a slight discount just to make sure he won't have to start packing mid-season, and how it might help the team building going forwards.

Maybe you are right but I am not sure any team is giving him the max. He is a great player and I am glad he is sticking around but not who I would want to blow the max on.

He's a very solid foundational piece to build around. The Warriors interest alone shows that he is a potential champion caliber piece. My only concern is that it's a year too early as this year's team needs to tank but there's not much to do about that.
