JZ/DA did a good job of selling Ochai while he still had a shred of value.

Will they be smart enough to do that same on their own pick?
it's not about being smart. They have eyes. They know they whiffed on the '23 draft so badly that it would be a fireable offense in some franchises.

But NBA front offices hate admitting their own mistakes even when jobs are not on the line. They don't like getting embarrassed... most of these dudes are pathologically competitive. That's why Hendricks isn't going anywhere.

It’s easy to pile on guys when they’re down. Hendricks had 7 total games played as an NBA player. I still believe in him. Same people who were trashing Keyonte after his rough stretch.

Every front office whiffs on the draft, more often than we would like to admit. It is why trading all-stars only for picks is a high risk game.

I have no idea if I believe in him but writing him off this quickly makes no sense.
If this was a team that was blown up scorched earth style, with an open multiyear tank coming up, people would be more understanding.

But we're like two minutes removed from having big win streaks and beating good teams, and suddenly the main attraction is Hendricks trying to crack the backboard with his perimeter shooting.

I think it’s a different story when the coach/teammates have a lot of belief in one player. I agree 7 games is not something to form an opinion on something, but at the same time when there’s not a ton to go off of you have to glean some insight from the people who are closer to the situation (players/coaches).

For the record, I still think he will become a decent role player in the NBA. But when we say “it will take time”, that’s what the endpoint will likely be. He was never a super high potential kind of prospect to begin with.

That is correct. I think Keyonte has the higher ceiling. Hendricks is not going to become a 25+ PPG scorer in the NBA. I said the same thing about Bilal and I’ll say it again for Hendricks. It will be hard for him to even become a 20+ PPG scorer. That is the reality and I think that’s ok! He should lean into becoming a McDaniels, Murphy, Herb, etc type of player.

Hopefully our young guys are watching lots of film so they can fix their mistakes.

Tyrese Haliburton stated after away games Bennedict Mathurin sits in the back of the airplane with the coach and watches the game film. I thought that was pretty cool.

I will say this... its a dick move by the teammates too. I get they are butthurt... that's what the money is for. Support your teammate and help lift him up like they wish or had vets that did the same for them. Completely ignoring him in the corner multiple times to shoot ****** shots is not it. Be pissy at DA but don't be a bad teammate.

All around poor effort and attitude. KO, Ochai, Simone were also vibes guys. IDK we'll see if this continues.
