My guess is he didn't think he'd get an infraction.. those three letters are used here all the time. Again, I'm not being critical.. just an observation.

Guarantee he knew it was a violation.

I'd be curious if someone reported him. I see people use stuff like that all the time. Just wondering if it's more of a getting reported thing or just whether the 'wrong' mod catches it?

I don't really care, though. As I've said before, I respect the rules and am down with repercussions to breaking them. The selective enforcement (or as it's perceived to be some) can be maddening at times, but I also understand there needs to be things like context, repeat offenses, and the understanding that mods/admin can't police every post.

My guess is some posters are on a crusade to get others banned. Pretty childish.. reporting is definitely selective.

I don't even know what the rules are most the time because of how selective it's become.

I understand because of the sheer volume of posts here not everything gets reported, but everything the moderators see gets reported and about that much more gets reported by other users. Doesn't seem selective to me at all.

All infractions are a result of reports, bar none. Some of the reports come from mods, but I think most of them don't. I don't know about this case.

And I'm not sure what you mean by the "wrong mod", because all infractions require 3 mods to vote for them. No infraction is ever issued just because of a single mod.

"wrong mod" simply implied that some are far more tolerant/understanding of context than others.. and more likely to take action if they're the one to see something.
No disrespect intended, but what I just outlined is not even debatable.

Personally, if a poster said "F U" to another poster, I would vote for an infraction based on disrespect (but not based on circumvention).

I would be willing to bet that 90% of these 'words' are used in good fun and/or sarcasm.

I say **** you ALL THE TIME.. and NEVER to be taken seriously.

I agree that is one person said F U in a fun way vs. in a mean way, I'd react (as a mod, that is) differently. An example is when Siro called some of us dumbasses because we didn't think to turn off "likes" notifications. I was like, "Hey, Siro, **** you!" I think that was clearly a light-hearted thing.. (not that I broke board rules).

I take my hat off to you guys because though the rules are black and white there is a need for interpretation at times and that can be viewed as selective enforcement.. and at times it is. I won't complain, though, because if I owned this site I would selectively enforce far worse and weed out the weenies and the worthless douche bags as well.

Profanity filter. Used a "q" and the end of an "fu." Sort of lame but it's pretty clear cut against the rules, and he had a couple violations in the past for it.

I got nailed for using an S and then asterisks. Had I omitted the "S" and just used symbols, it wouldn't have been an infraction. IMO, circumventing the profanity filter is one of the $%^#&^%$ rules. And by $%^#&^%$, I meant silliest. It's harsh for Cy, but if he's been warned about it once, then he knew he was taking that risk. I learned from my infraction. Now I just swear for real and if the filter takes it out, I'm safe!

Let me try rephrasing: everything the moderators see, they report regardless of who the offender was. Also, other users report about that much more, which the moderators then deal with.

Personally, with things like the filter, I always look at a poster's past. If they have a history of it, I vote infraction. This has kind of become the norm for the mods. Most of the time, a first time offense gets a simple warning. Anything after that, it's an infraction. The board software keeps track of the infraction history for everybody. There have even been times when it was viewed as an accident (posted from a phone {small keyboard} and the letters were right next to each other). I think the mods as a whole have become more lenient and tolerant of things here. We each seem to have our hot buttons that really get to us or our pet peeves, but for the most part, this group has been together long enough that we all kind of view everything the same.
I think the majority of reported posts right now are coming from other posters and not the mods. There are times when that is reversed.
This was not the first time, or even the second for Cyrone. Maybe not even the third, but I can't remember off the top of my head and I'm too lazy to look it up. He absolutely knew it was at least running the risk of being reported.

Wow.. really?? That seems really vindictive to me... that kind of stuff never really worry/bother me to be honest.


Calling someone "names" or singling someone out, on the other hand, I have issues with - but they don't even lead to an infraction from what I understand.
