Terrorism in Charleston, SC

Why would we glorify the civil war by flying a Nazi flag. Now you are all over the place on this. Typical liberal.

As much as it hurts, he's got a point. Typical conservatives won't see it, as they're too busy being grateful praising Jesus, and focusing on what makes their life good and not giving half a thought at what makes society bad... or even that any other bad can exist.

My two cents?

I think it's dumb that people want to ban the confederate flag and make a big fuss about it.

I also think it's dumb that people are mad that others want it banned.

Like usual, people get offended too easily and need to have thicker skin.
It's just a flag. A square shaped piece of fabric with a design on it. Why do people give a ****?

I agree that people get offended way to easily in todays society. However I can certanly see how people would see this flag as a symbol of their oppression and suffering and as a result hate it. There is such a long, deadly history there that I can understand it intellectually.

For my personal opinion I am glad that some businesses and conservative leaders are finally joining the voices of those calling for it's demise (NASCAR, Gov. Haley, Walmart, Amazon, Mitt Romney...).

Chillax dude, it's only a piece of cloth. A swastika is just a bunch of lines. Emotions are just a bunch of molecules having a reaction with a bunch of other molecules. I don't understand people who make a fuss over "symbols" and "meaning". Those things aren't real. Like, get over it.

Not ban. Remove from the State Capitol. People will still be allowed to fly it in their trailer parks.

People aren't upset that these symbols of hatred exist.

People are upset that thee symbols of hatred are being sponsored and flown by their own state governments at their capital buildings.

It's symbolic that these governments STILL do not consider blacks to be equal to whites.

Thanks for the info. Makes sense then

It's obvious who the Fox News and AM radio listeners are

No one is calling for a ban of the confederate battle flag. What people are requesting is that it not be flown at the capital building.

Do you folks know of the history behind this? These flags were not flying at southern capital buildings after the civil war. However, they began to be raised when President Truman desegregated the armed forces, when the SC ruled on Brown vs Board of Edu, and in the early 60s civil Rights movement. The very flag in SC was raised in 1961. And at that time it was on top of the building. Clear manifestation of hostility towards the civil rights movement.

The raising of these flags have nothing to do with memorializing the fallen during the civil war. They're blatant examples of racist whites in southern states showing their disdain for equality. You people really need to learn the very history of this country (especially from the 1930s-60s) to better understand the anger behind those requesting the flag be brought down.
