Texas school shooting

Haha, you don't have the slightest.
Make it mandatory buy out or a fine. So if I have a gun collecting dust somewhere which I do not use ... would I rather have 10x return on my investment or 10X fine? Seems like easy choice. Of course some gun masochists will risk keeping them but lets be honest, 90% of you do not need a gun. So even if half of them will sell their guns out to government you decreased total number of guns in USA by 150 mil. That is a damn good start in my opinion.

You should rent a house in Utah County, Utah for a summer. Attend some LDS church services. Go out shooting with some locals (they would absolutely jump at the chance to take a Canadian out shooting). Then get back to me. You think it's an easy choice but I think a good 20% of Utah gun owners would hide their guns (there's no way to know what guns they have, I hope you know that) and they might turn in a couple guns they don't use or that flat out don't work.

It's not a real solution. Many would literally die before giving up their guns. You can think they'd cave or that it's bravado, for some maybe it is, but not for all of them, not even close. They see gun ownership as the last line of defense against the ultimate slavery of all mankind. They think they are the last standouts preventing a world government from swooping in and enslaving all people everywhere in the world. So long as the U.S. people can defend themselves with guns the plans of this secret world government are being thwarted.

Especially the real gun nuts. Those are the people that own most of the guns.

People like me who own guns but don't care that much about them are in the minority.

Man, you guys really have serious issues. It is just mind boggling paranoia which is beyond any common sense of understanding.

Yeah, I mean I've tried to explain to you anti-gun folks that you don't understand gun culture. It's not all crazy, but the people who believe the one-world government is trying to enslave humanity certainty gravitate towards the gun community. They are there. They aren't giving up their guns for money or to avoid a fine. Plus, as I mentioned, you don't know who has what guns. So there's no way to validate compliance.

I bet when Australia bought them out they did not succeed in buying all of them but it was generally a huge success.
Yeah, I guess having stockpiles of guns hidden buried in backyards, in cabins in the woods, etc. would be a positive step in the eyes of gun control advocates compared to our current situation.

Our views and feelings towards guns is very different than Australia.

Plus we have warped the meaning of the second amendment in the USA to mean that individuals have the rights to own guns. Overcoming that misconception that has been supported by courts is really hard to overcome here. It has become a basic human right for many citizens here. This is one of the biggest wins for conservatives and gun people in the US. It took decades of work to accomplish but they got there and I dont think there is anyway to take away gun rights in the US without a major conflict.

But gun owners are in the minority by a long shot here. A lot of people think that since there is roughly 1 gun per citizen in the US that most people own a gun or at least the majority but its probably around 20-30% of US citizens who actually own a gun. And of those that own guns there are a select few ~3% that own most of the guns. 3% of US citizens own 50% of all the guns.

I said that already. Americans love money more than guns - buy them out. Your government can afford it.

Then you have a misunderstanding of millions of Americans.

Also, gun buy back programs already exist. We still have 300 million plus guns. As constituted they are not working in accomplishing your goal.

Yep, criminals and gang members are going to rush to the nearest gun redemption facility to surrender their weapons. Violent crime will drop to zero.

These school shootings are tragic. I hope it doesnt happen to my family. But taking away guns wont resolve the problem. As mentioned, there's no way to completely eliminate guns from every single person, nor do we want to.

I'm not a gun owner currently. But as I get older, as my income decreases and I'm forced to move into a dicier neighborhood, maybe I will. Or even as I go hiking alone. Lets say, just for ***** and giggles, criminal x accosts me on a trail and for some odd reason, wasn't able to buy a gun on the black market. You dont think he'd just use a hunting knife? If so, I want to have a gun to defend myself.

And for every shooting, let's also post crimes that were stopped or prevented by a bystander having a gun.

I think we really need to address the reason behind a lot of shootings: mental illness. Maybe it's time to reopen institutions. Maybe it's time for something to be done to better identify and help or commit the individuals who are showing signs of becoming violent.

That does not sound like fun at all.

They have a day each month where they cry over random **** while giving their testimony. Last time I went, a teenager told a parable about a bird that symbolizes Christ or something. He cried.

You should check that service out. First Sunday of each month, I believe.
