We need something to stir the we-all-know-what-everyone-thinks-so what's-the-point-in-discussion stagnation.
DSRT = deseret = honeybee?
Getting banned--twice for one offense, commies--got me to reading something meaningful. I was reading up on Egypt and ran into this on wiki:
"Deshret or DSRT also represents the insect known as the honeybee. The Book of Mormon claims that the word Deseret means honeybee."
Wow, sounds like something. I look into it and it originated from this Hugh Nibley fellow who I've read tidbits from but not much. Anyway, Nibley says DSRT, the red crown of lower Egypt was associated with the honey bee and the word was most likely lost/changed somewhere in time similar to YHWH to Adonai. Pretty damn interested at this point as it is obviously something J. Smith could never have known about. Rosetta Stone post-dates him.
The Mormons have a pretty good convergence here. I read a bunch of polemic against the idea, but it is just that. Haters gonna hate. Smith ballparked that leather.
So I go digging some more and D&C gets this Melchizedek priesthood name change spot on too, at least as authority Margaret Barker tells it.
Anyone into this stuff?
