The All Star Game BS

Honest question: Why is it so important to have your own all star when you host an AS game? What kind of benefits does Ryan get from it? I dont think that the arena is not going to be sold out even if we have nobody in the game anyway.

Prestige. The other owners will laugh and call him names. And won't let him play any ownership games.

One thing that is highly annoying when considering our direction next year is the presence of the all-star game. The narrative that we would like to be good because its embarrassing to host the AS game and not be competitive.

Question without looking it up... where was the AS game 3 years ago? did that team have an AS? I legit don't know... because the AS location doesn't matter really at all... except to the city that hosts and the money that comes in for it. So we really want to make BIG decisions based on AS game?

The other dumb narrative is Ryan's pride won't let him make it look like he ran the team into the ground. We are in for a tough 4-5 years no matter if we blow it up or not.
I don't want the big decisions made because of the All Star game, but I don't make any of those decisions. Just saying.

But also, absolutely nuking your team prior to hosting it might actually get Smith respect and cool points more than the other way around, saying nothing of the guaranteed circus the organization is going to be embroiled in with Donovan rumors swirling around that time.

Caring about something so ultimately inconsequential as hosting the ASG (that honestly has little to do with the Jazz) is stock and cowardly reasoning.

Cool points with who? People who fantasize about long wingspans? It ain't happening lol. This all star weekend is the most important thing to Smith. You're absolutely kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

Ryan Smith has shown his cards since the day he got here. If you're frustrated, I get it, but he's shown us the type of owner he wants to be right from the start. He wants to be heavily involved, he wants attention, and he also really likes money. This All Star game, which is gaudy rich people ****, is dumb...but this is exactly the type of thing he wants to get out of ownership. Winning a championship is not his top priority. Looking cool is his number one priority.

He won't look cool either way... If he blows it up he will have a team that is not winning and may not have any exciting players... if he keeps Donovan he will be the mayor of AS weekend and everyone will know he's a short timer here... ain't fooling no one other than himself.

Its ego driven but its also a super nerdy thing to think "I'll throw a huge party for all the cool kids and have Donovan hanging out with us showing how cool we are... I'll be the most popular guy in high school!" When in reality it will be a fun party and change no ones opinion about him or the state. The jocks will all forget the cool party you threw the second its over.

I know he doesn't see it that way... I know he has it built in his mind completely different. Basically the only hope the blow it up crowd have is Donovan making a firm trade request this summer.

I hope if he goes this route and Donovan doesn't make the AS game that Donovan takes a trip during the break and lolz on Ryan. Would be kind of embarrassing for Donovan to stick around if he didn't make the team too... if he is still a jazz man I won't route against him but part of me would laugh my *** off at either scenario.

I disagree with some of you on what Ryan wants out of AS weekend. He wants it as an outlet to the world to Utah and Donovan is kinda known world wide at some level. That’s why he wants Donovan here. Unfortunately it’ll just be a weekend filled with Donovan rumors and drama imo.

I've heard the all-star game brought up a lot this week...MacMahon brought it up in his interview with Checketts, Sarah Todd kept mentioning it in an interview today, and I believe Andy Larsen talked about it as well in his podcast with Eric Walden. I think it's extremely stupid and a huge mistake to let something as pointless as the all-star game play major role in how you approach the offseason, but I think it's pretty clear at this point that that's exactly what Ryan Smith and the front office are going to do.

I wonder why this stupid game that Vegas never wants to see again (uptick in crime AS weekend) means so damn much to Ryan Smitho_O

The pinnacle of Jazz achievement!
