The Biden Administration and All Things Politics

What would be folks proposed upper age limits for these types of positions?
I have nothing against term limits. But I just want to point out that term limits already exist. No one had a gun to their head to vote for McConnell. He could’ve been primaried by fellow Republicans. He’s won like 6 terms, so at least 6 times he could’ve been primaried. Kentucky voters could’ve turned to a Dem for a term to dump Mitch too. Amy McGrath was a moderate Dem with a veterans background and was at least 30 years younger. She would’ve served Kentucky voters well without probably any of the legislation that’s been passed so far.

Just want to point out that he's responding to fish in regard to AGE limits for candidates.

But about term limits, I think that gives more power to bureaucrats and special interests as baby lamb politicians go looking for the infrastructure to get themselves elected for their turn. Term limits are not a restriction imposed by the people on politicians, term limits are a restriction placed on voters.

I strongly oppose term limits.

I think 65-70 is a good limit. Any age in that range.
I mean most Americans retire in that age range so it seems weird that the most important position in the world is often held by someone over the retirement age.

I just prefer that the president be at his/her absolute sharpest. Prime of their life would be preferable.

Im in my mid 40’s and im already past my prime. Im not as sharp as i was just 5 years ago. My memory is getting worse. My eyesight is getting worse. My energy level is getting worse. 77 is still too old imo. If it were up to me i would probably say we should make the age limit 70. But that number is really just me trying to be reasonable and compromise.

I would love it if our next president was younger than 50. How old was obama when he was elected? Seems like he was in his prime. Give me mayor pete. Someone in that age range please.

But alas, our next president will be in his 80’s and in pretty extreme physical and mental decline. Struggling to walk on ramps or bring a glass of water to their mouth or falling off bikes or struggling to make a coherent sentence and needing take cognition tests to prove they don't have dementia or whatever. Sigh.

Obama was 47 I believe.

Perfect. I remember thinking he was incrediblly sharp and fit. Seemed to be right in or near his prime of his life.

I mean 70 year olds certainly can do the job but rather than just having someone who can do the job I would prefer someone who can do the job best. Like Lauri markennan can play point guard. He knows how to dribble, pass, and shoot. But I would prefer we go with the best option.

So I heard that Hunter bidens plea deal got denied. KSL news radio had a legal expert on the radio show this morning discussing that denial. He said that a federal judge will very rarely deny a plea deal. He said that one of the main players in the case (cant remember if it was the federal judge or attorney or what) was appointed by trump. This expert said that if the defendent was the average joe schmoe that the plea almost certainly would have been accepted. He said that this is likely just political theater.

So........ The DOJ is being weaponized against democrats! This is a witch hunt! Its a hoax!

Just kidding. That is obvious sarcasm. Sometimes, though it rarely happens, there is a good reason for a judge to deny a plea deal. Im going to assume that the judge has a good reason and allow the justice system to work without making a big deal out this.

Could easily be tied to social security retirement age. Currently it's at 67 for full social security. Say max 10 years past that for eligibility for politics, so 77 as max age.
The problem with 77 as a max age to run (I assume that is what you were meaning by max of 77) is that you add 8 years (2 terms) and now you have an 85 year old sitting president. No bueno imo.

Imagine the ugliness we’d be seeing right now if Biden stepped down and Mayor Pete were the frontrunner. The amount of disgusting homophobia that’d be coming out from Republicans would be insane. “Do you want a pedophile groomer commie socialist as president? Tee hee who’d be the First Lady tee hee gay!” It would make the the racism on display in 2008 look tame.

Well, I’m up there, and my mind is still as sharp as a tac! Now, let me see where I left my coffee this time…..

I was just riffing on what OB said about still being effective in politics into their 70's. We could as easily amend this to be that they cannot run after age 67, so at 67 is the last time they could run, meaning ending their last term if they get 8 years at 75. Seems somewhat reasonable. Although I agree with you about younger being better for our president. I wouldn't mind if they cut it off at 60, that at 60 is the last time you can run for office, with a single re-election allowed past that if you get elected, and that could go for any politician in the country. Senate or congress, last time to run it at 60 years old, and if your final term takes you past 60, say it ends when you are 61 or something, then that is it, you retire. Done and done.

Then they can become lobbyists for 10 years and add millions to their already hefty wealth. Seems like a win-win to me.

Wonder what trump would’ve done had he been president? I’m sure he wouldn’t have made light of it…

It’s nice having a decent human being who isn’t a sociopath as president. Real high bar, I know…

Unfortunately in politics that is quite the high bar. There has been research done that shows that careers in politics are particularly attractive to people with psychopathic tendencies. Just like being business leaders. Seems if you don't care much about humans you can get more **** done, since you don't care who you step on. Now, take that to the extreme, like Trump, and it is just the snake eating its tail and all bad all the time. Get the right psychopath in there and relatively good things can happen.

Sure but they will do that anyway with any candidate so I would simply love to have a candidate at the top of their game. Pete is great at taking that kind of heat and handles it extremely well. I would love to see it.
