I also agree, and while I acknowledge people that I often agree with, I try to avoid having personal heroes.


Being POTUS/running for POTUS means having an impact. AFAICT, Trump is the most influential member of one of the two dominant political parties, which again means he has an impact.

Its kinda funny, I think if the rest of the world had a vote, Biden would win in a landslide, he is definitely the preferred candidate of the global community for no other reason than stability and common sense. From a distance, Biden's failure has been that he hasn't been able to galvanise a coalition in government and articulate a clarion vision for the future in government. Now this isn't a very easy thing to do but its made harder against the background of wreckers who care not for the country or the democracy but for their own narrow interests. It is the same behaviour of the communists parties of Europe and the Nazis in the 30's. The unfortunate thing about our press class and a large section of the community is that they can't recognise what it is or lack the courage to call it out for what it is. Until this happens democracy in the west will remain leveraged by people like Trump and Putin. Let me be clear they are both the same.

America I will say this, western democracy will survive without you but as an idea, as a vision for the world the "global west" will not thrive without you. Nobody serves the enemies of democracy more than Trump and Putin, I'm disgusted by the place he holds in your country but I'm not surprised, the political elite who only serve themselves have left the space for neo fascists like Trump to occupy. Its a sad world we live in.

I’m confused. So are conservatives now against local control? Seems to me like New York should be able to make gun regulation laws according to their right as a state to be governed locally. Why shouldn’t California be able to raise the age for certain guns? Do we really want a big nanny state socialist tyrannical government to tell states what to do?

it’s hard to keep up with things. So for abortion states know best, right? But for gun regulation states don’t know best? What is the philosophy here other than provide Republicans with legislation via the judicial branch that they didn’t have the votes for in the legislative branch?

Nope. We are a republic. In the United States, the demos do not have the kratia. The US Constitution with its amendments supersedes the will of the people, and the US Constitution with its amendments is clear that New York does not have the power to infringe on American’s rights. Local governments have the power to enact the things the US Constitution with its amendments is silent on, and the second amendment isn’t silent on gun rights.

In the concurrence to the majority opinion, it was fun to see Alito take Breyer to task for defective thinking. Breyer in his dissent pointed to the recent mass shootings in Uvalde and Buffalo being proof of this New York state law needing to stand. I’m going to paraphrase but essentially Alito said “Hey moron, Buffalo is in New York where this law was in effect. It clearly doesn’t stop people willing to break the law.”

Great post. I will never ever understand the infatuation and worship that trumps followers exude on such an obviously corrupt and scummy piece of crap. I mean its extremely obvious how deplorable he is. Trump university? Sleeping with porn stars while he is married? Cheating on 3 different wives (all of whom were pregnant at the time)? All of the many many horrible things he says and tweets? It is shocking that ANYONE would want him to be president.
Some will say "but i like his policies." You mean the same policies that hundreds of other republican politicians would also enact? If you like his policies then get behind one of the other republican candidates that is way less obviously corrupt and douchey.

Keith Olbermann is not "the left". He holds no office and has no political power. Meanwhile, Mayor Adams was very clear that he would do everything he could within the law., and didn't talk about changing the court, nor ignoring/fighting the ruling, nor harassment of judges.
